Today I went to the UM Botanical Gardens and bought a Venus fly trap. I've

Audrey Junior is either cliche or cute, depending on your circle of friends.

Tiger.

#3 of 41 by eskarina on Sun Mar 31 06:28:20 2002:

Audrey Junior? I don't even get it.

#4 of 41 by gelinas on Sun Mar 31 06:29:50 2002:

("Audrey" was the name of the plant in The Little Shop of Horrors.)

How about the totally mundane and obvious "Venus"?

#5 of 41 by jp2 on Sun Mar 31 06:43:18 2002:

I think the name was Audrey II.

#6 of 41 by senna on Sun Mar 31 07:46:13 2002:

They sell venus fly traps? interesting. Perhaps I should buy a whole herd.

Call it Raul.

        I'd suggest "Dick Cheney".

#8 of 41 by mcnally on Sun Mar 31 10:26:06 2002:

  How about "Tim Reid"?

#9 of 41 by mary on Sun Mar 31 11:26:07 2002:

Spot.

Grendel or Gilgamesh.

"Untrap" or "Free" ?

#12 of 41 by scott on Sun Mar 31 14:26:42 2002:

"Milo".

#13 of 41 by jep on Sun Mar 31 15:12:33 2002:

Serena.

(There aer a pair of sisters who are professional tennis players; Venus
and Serena Williams.)

#14 of 41 by remmers on Sun Mar 31 15:16:03 2002:

I vote for "Milo" too.

#15 of 41 by gelinas on Sun Mar 31 15:52:32 2002:

I read #10 as "Grendel OF Gilgamesh".

#16 of 41 by other on Sun Mar 31 15:55:55 2002:

#3-5: I don't know about the musical, but in the original Corman flick (with
Jack Nicholson in an early role as the dental patient), the plant was named
Audrey Junior. The florist's daughter was named Audrey.

#24 of 41 by i on Mon Apr 1 02:35:13 2002:

Baalzebub
Gaea
Golgotha

#25 of 41 by gelinas on Mon Apr 1 02:42:08 2002:

(Personally, I prefer "Baalzebul" to "Baalzebub")

#26 of 41 by russ on Mon Apr 1 03:41:17 2002:

"Bugcrist".

#27 of 41 by mcnally on Mon Apr 1 03:43:37 2002:

Of course it doesn't matter what you call it -- it's not going to come
  when you call.. <rimshot>

#28 of 41 by eskarina on Mon Apr 1 06:57:36 2002:

I'm seriously thinking "Chewy", unless I come up with something better soon.

#29 of 41 by morwen on Mon Apr 1 08:21:35 2002:

Chewy? Like as in "Chewbacca"?

#30 of 41 by brighn on Mon Apr 1 14:38:00 2002:

Goldblum.

(as in Jeff)

#31 of 41 by gull on Mon Apr 1 17:40:16 2002:

My Venus flytraps always died.

#32 of 41 by tpryan on Mon Apr 1 18:51:28 2002:

        /agrees with #8

#33 of 41 by mooncat on Mon Apr 1 20:13:54 2002:

How about Fluffy?

#34 of 41 by eskarina on Mon Apr 1 20:23:07 2002:

yes, Chewy as in Chewbacca.

I'm looking for a nice double meaning, or a not too repulsive pun.

#35 of 41 by mcnally on Mon Apr 1 23:06:21 2002:

No real double meaning, but if you decide your fly-trap seems feminine,
  you could go with "Aphrodite"..

#36 of 41 by tpryan on Mon Apr 1 23:10:26 2002:

        How about Little Green Goblin'?

#37 of 41 by remmers on Mon Apr 1 23:24:26 2002:

The earlier-suggested "Milo" works in the same way as "Aphrodite".

#38 of 41 by mcnally on Tue Apr 2 00:29:54 2002:

(yeah, but when I think "Milo" I picture a little boy who runs around
accompanied by a dog with a clock in his torso..)

#39 of 41 by buddy on Tue Apr 2 01:51:01 2002:

Hi anna. It's mary i just told my mom about your plant and that you were
asking for suggestions for a name for your plant. My mom suggests "gypsie"
