Blessed are the cheesemakers?

#6 of 226 by jazz on Sun Mar 24 23:20:09 2002:

So far everyone seems to be doing a pretty good job of ignoring the
business propsal.

#7 of 226 by oval on Sun Mar 24 23:21:23 2002:

i use VO5 conditioner.

#8 of 226 by vidar on Mon Mar 25 01:22:30 2002:

Sorry sarkhel, I don't believe in Jesus.

#9 of 226 by russ on Mon Mar 25 03:13:14 2002:

sarkhel, are we supposed to tolerate your stupidity because
of the command to "suffer fools gladly"?

Well, okay. But think about what that says about you.

#10 of 226 by jazz on Mon Mar 25 13:32:44 2002:

Think, too, of: "thou shalt not suffer a twit to live."

#11 of 226 by keesan on Mon Mar 25 14:21:59 2002:

Nobody has answered my short question yet.

#12 of 226 by morwen on Mon Mar 25 16:33:18 2002:

Jeez, guys, at least TRY to be nice to the poor guy.

resp:11 Can you repost your question, Sindi?

#13 of 226 by keesan on Mon Mar 25 16:57:32 2002:

I want a copy of what sarkhel has been posting about Latvia and business.
Re 12, I can try to feel sorry for a vandal but why be nice to them?

#14 of 226 by morwen on Mon Mar 25 17:15:06 2002:

I don't see why anyone should be nice to vandals. They render ugly
anything that was once beautiful. The appropriate punishment, in my
mind, is to make them clean up all the messes they make.

#15 of 226 by oval on Mon Mar 25 22:35:42 2002:

i like seeing graffiti.

#16 of 226 by jazz on Tue Mar 26 00:32:12 2002:

All of it? Even crudely rendered naked women?

#17 of 226 by oval on Tue Mar 26 00:35:51 2002:

yup.

#18 of 226 by keesan on Tue Mar 26 01:33:41 2002:

What does the word Praedikat mean on a wine label and is there some similar
term something like Supreme or Peak? (trying to figure out a translation in
which they copied over, totally out of context, any words that someone
speaking a related language could not find - mustard gas, duckling, road salt,
additives to baked goods, yellow, pineapple, windows for yachts,, 99.85%
pure.... - it would be interesting to try writing a novel with all these words
in the same order they were sent in).
The Supreme may have nothing to do with the Praedikat. My favorite phrase
is bituminous whales (surely the second word has another meaning).

#19 of 226 by rcurl on Tue Mar 26 02:11:15 2002:

"Quality Wine with Special Attributes. = "Qualitaetswein mit Praedikat."

#20 of 226 by mcnally on Tue Mar 26 02:50:44 2002:

re #18: whales from very, very, very long ago might, by now, be bituminous.

#21 of 226 by keesan on Tue Mar 26 02:58:35 2002:

Whales originated within the past 60 million years - can they become
bituminous in that short a time span? They used to have feet and may be
related most closely to hippopotami.

Can someone write a short story based on: hop seedlings, Frogs, Cinquantine
(whatever that means), Praedikat, fruit tea, bituminous whales, soot other
than from methane, antihail rockets, margarine tubs, galvalume chimney pipe,
and trolley buses, or at least three of these? Just summarize the plot.

#22 of 226 by russ on Tue Mar 26 03:16:48 2002:

Re #10: That is SO Old Testament, jazz. Not Christian at all.

#23 of 226 by gelinas on Tue Mar 26 03:38:46 2002:

Re #21 par 2: I _could_, but I'm not going to. Not tonight, anyway.

Sindi, "join winter; set noforget; browse" then scan for the item you want.

#24 of 226 by jazz on Tue Mar 26 13:33:57 2002:

Well, yes, but wasn't Jesus a Jewish Rabbi, and therefore didn't he
teach the OT?

#25 of 226 by vidar on Tue Mar 26 13:47:05 2002:

resp 12: I see no point in being nice to people who try to force their
religion on others (that also applies to atheists).

#26 of 226 by orinoco on Tue Mar 26 15:30:11 2002:

Re #21: I bet Pynchon could. Good luck finding him.

Hi again guolizhong. This is not a live chat but a bulletin board system.
You write something, then type . and (enter) and then another person comes
along later and writes something related.

#29 of 226 by polygon on Tue Mar 26 18:26:31 2002:

Re 21. If you're serious about this, I can post that challenge to
Bullamanka-Pinheads, and probably generate a good answer.

#30 of 226 by omni on Wed Mar 27 01:12:55 2002:

Can someone give me directions to Neopolis?

#31 of 226 by morwen on Wed Mar 27 23:19:18 2002:

Where is Neopolis?

#32 of 226 by tsty on Wed Mar 27 23:19:21 2002:

it's not in ohio .. adn i don't have a detaild map of italy ... need
more info.

#33 of 226 by omni on Wed Mar 27 23:49:15 2002:

yes, Neopolis is reputed to be in Western Lucas county, although I have
never been there.

that's why I was asking for directions, or I could just be horsing around.

   You decide.

#34 of 226 by oval on Sun Apr 14 20:03:17 2002:

let's say you're filing taxes as a single person, with no other complicated
issues. youmade less than 25k and the feds took 1700 as shown on a particular
W-2. how much of that would you expect to get back?

#35 of 226 by other on Sun Apr 14 20:04:01 2002:

insufficient data

#36 of 226 by jep on Sun Apr 14 21:40:49 2002:

re #34: If you made $25,000 and are filling out the 1040EZ form, your
taxable income is $17,550, and you owed $2,626 for the year. You owe
$926 if there are no other issues to be considered.

The forms are all on-line, and also the instruction booklets. Just go
to http://www.irs.gov and enter the form you want to use in the "Forms
and Publications Finder" box. It works really well.

#37 of 226 by oval on Sun Apr 14 22:06:55 2002:

i just figured it all out. 1040's, 1099's and everything. all done and getting
a fairly decent refund. did it online and just printed the files to mail off
tomorrow.

#38 of 226 by keesan on Mon Apr 15 12:22:10 2002:

Jim put a battery in a little gadget which is a combination clock, alarm, and
timer, and he managed somehow to set the time, but he also set the alarm for
8:00 a. m. I can reset the alarm time but how do I set it not to do the
alarm? It started beeping at 8:00 and I hit Start/Stop which quelled it but
it started again at 8:05 8:10 8:15. Short of removing the battery how do I
turn this thing off? Also how to set the day? Buttons are
Lap reset Mode and Start/Stop. I may put it under a pillow soon.
I have changed the alarm to 9:00 am and hope for an answer before that.

#39 of 226 by keesan on Mon Apr 15 12:55:51 2002:

Grex has failed me! Logging off now. You have to remove two tiny screws to
get the battery out.
