I am totally new to this, but I think it's pretty sweet! I would just like to know what the majority of people come in here for?
62 responses total.
Are you chinese?
Don't listen to bdh3. You don't have to be Chinese, although it is perfectly OK to be Chinese. The majority of people come here to have interesting exchanges with others on "everything under the sun". It is a form of town meeting that is hard to find at town meetings.
Ever watched the Ann Arbor school board meetings? Its sorta like that. And there's that one lady who gets up and whines about something every week and no one listens... You get the idea. :)
Thanks for your feedback:)
After receiving 3 feedbacks,u r faded back? what a pity:-(
We gather here to expend various energies and vent various virtual humours upon each other and upon total strangers, just for fun and profit, minus the profit. Welcome! :)

I'm sick of lamers advertising useless web sites and IRC channels, and especially lamers who can't be bothered to specify which is which.
I'm sick of script kiddies who keep making Matrix references.
Megazone 23 references would be cool, however.
I'm sick of people who call other people "lamers."
One of these days I need to see the rest of Megazone 23. That was a pretty cool anime.
Re #17: I think the only thing that's worse is people calling other people "mundanes".
re #19: that's definitely worse but probably not the only thing worse. I've (so far) never heard anyone use the term but I wonder if the use of "mundanes" will eventually be replaced by "muggles" <shudder>
That is so last tuesday...
#20> I've heard "muggle" being used by pagans who would have ued "mundane" five years ago. I'm sick of both.
Shame on the lack of Network 31 refferences.
Harry Potter != paganism.
(repeat as necessary)
BLASPHEMER! John, you are bound to HELL for such a post! Not for saying it, but because you used syntax VB doesn't recognize. ;}
uh...
Paganism != Visual Basic, too.
If it's not equal, does that mean that it's greater than or less than?
Yes, the statements
a <> b
and
a != b
and
a!b
are pretty much synonymous. Different systems use different operators.

re #29: they're not quite the same, actually..
resp:24 Jazz, I have to know. What made you post that?
Megazone 23.. I guess I need to look that up. I enjoy anime, but I am cash-poor. If I had mad money, I'd be catching up with more stuff like that.. oh yeah, and all the stuff that's been recommended to me in the music cf.
Re #28: "Not equal" does not always imply "greater than or less than". The third possibility is "incomparable". e.g. red != heavy
#32> "Muggle" is the word in Harry Potter used to refer to non-magickal sorts (like his foster family). Many pagans are using "muggle" to refer to non-pagans, becuase many pagans get confused easily and think that Harry Potter is a religious document. #34> That depends on what level you're approaching it from. What happens if you try: i% <> cheese$ in BASIC? I'm not really sure. While: "red" != "dog" is true while there's no clear sense that "red" is "greater than or less than" "dog" as far as content goes, the assessment is based on the character values, not the content (i.e., "dog" < "red" < "zoo"). But then, I imagine you knew all that, I'm just saying...
You can't use < or > to compare elements of a set unless you have defined an ordering on the set. Arbitrary sets don't have a priori orderings.
Mathematically, you are correct; nonetheless, I've used languages that use the "<>" operator to mean "does not equal".

#37> Where there's no ordering? For instance, while "cat" <> "dog", so too it is that "Dog" <> "dog" in all the languages I'm familiar with. I prefer perl's method, even though I thought it was sill the first time I saw it (where != is for numerics and ne is for strings).
