Clubs

This is not The Yellow Pages. It's a list that covers a selected handful of
joints in Tel-Aviv (with a detour to Jerusalem) reflecting the variety of
musical and party abilities of the current electro-culture in Israel.

TLV The Old Port, Tel Aviv
The long awaited successor to Allenby 58 is finally here. Owned by the same
guys that formed the Israeli night life scene as it is today (but without the
mythical Uri Stark), designed by the talented Micha Azulay and located at the
far north side of the old port, the TLV carries us into the 21 Century. It
is a huge complex that contains 4 different zones with separate entrances,
4 bars, a cafe with sea view and a lot of surprises. The ventilation system
alone took $300,000 of investment.

It is an impressive facility and it marks the way things will be from now
on. In my eyes its main problem is the location of the DJ booth and the shape
of the main hall dance floor. Opened on 22 February with the home coming of
the FFF Line (first formed at the old Allenby 58) - that hosted Victor
Calderon and about 3000 crazed clubbers. The club will also host the Niterox
Line in the near future. Bon Voyage!

Ku-millenium, Salame 132 Tel-Aviv, 03-5102060
Not my soup bowl nor my playground but still a well worthy club. My biff with
it is that they don't take their crowd seriously. It is an incoherent club.
It is time for a complete makeover, cause it looks like something from 3
decades ago (which it actually is) or like a school party, especially now that
the TLV, Dome and Tel Aviv Lounge are around. It is inferior to them in all
fields. But I admit that they do bring excellent talents over, from the less
chee-z side of the moon (Circulation, Antony Pappa, Max Graham...). They plan
to continue this line so follow the (plain & ugly) flyer trail. Located on
the far south side of town. 'Mixed' crowd, basic selection.

ZOOM Old Port, Tel Aviv, 03-605-9155
A big venue more than an actual club. Endless possibilities for decoration.
Has Variable looks & atmosphere depending on production. Was the temporary
home of Shirazi's FFF parties (the gap on Friday nights will be filled with
a new house line), hosts the Uma-Koma exclusive trance parties and
moreWhatever party it hosts, get ready to misbehave, the place asks for it.
Good luck at the door if you don't have a 'combina'.

HAOMAN 17 17 Haoman, Jerusalem, 02-6781658
The 6th season at the best club in Israel, amongst the best in the world.
Freshly redecorated, new attractions added, improved sound system. The
church-like space now holds 5 bars, 2 dance floors, 2 porches, a sushi bar,
a hidden shmoozing lounge and the busiest toilet you've ever seen.

A firm, tasteful musical line in the fields of tech-house, a home grown
resident who is the best Israeli DJ (Sahar Zangilevich) and top-quality
guests; the wildest, craziest, highly desired party line
(Haoman-Shirazi-Shaham holiday's after-parties) that redefine the concept of
"holiday" and bridge the gap between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, straight and gay.
After the opening of the TLV I can surely state that Haoman 17 is still the
best we can offer, but the war has just startedwhat more can I say?
Ahatmosphere. That evasive thing that divides good from great. You can drown
in Haoman's atmosphere...amazing. A sure MBE whenever you go.

HATA'ASIA Hata'asia 5, Jerusalem.
Second season for the newest member of the mega league. A lot of money was
put into this place in an attempt to create direct competition for the Haoman.
Was lacking the atom ingredient. Interesting to see if it gets it this time,
'cause all the other stuff is in there big time: 2 big dance spaces, a cool
yard and an amazing sound system that will blast you off your feet. The
musical line is defined somewhere in the fields of club-trance.

DOME 19 Ha'tsfira St., Tel Aviv
Is it really a club? The Dome was the most talked about thing in town for
quite a while. They say it took more than a million dollars to make it happen.
When you enter you understand where the money went. Multi-layered space, wood
finishes, brilliant VIP rooms, superb sound system, cool toiletsit's all
there. But the chances you will actually go there are lame.

For the meantime the place operates as a space for rent. An advanced version
of a wedding hall. The owner (same guy who owns sleeze joints such as Deep
and Matmid) I guess is not ready to maintain such a place as a real club -
with a soul and a vibe of its own. So be it. But if you have a lot of money
and a bar mitzvah in sight, go for it.
