Can anybody help me to install a modem (Intel Ham 56K) on Linux Red Hat 7.2 or Slackware 7.0 ?

Apparently not.
First of all, is it a WinModem? If it is, chances are that it will not work at all in Linux. An external hardware modem is your best bet. The PCI modems are usually WinModems or software modems that use the OS (usually Windows) to mimic some of the hardware functions that a modem normally performs for itself. Try to find out what port it is on by querying it with a utility like minicom or kermit. If you don't know what I am talking about, let me know. BTEW, try putting your post in the jellyware conference. You'll be more likely to get help there.

Most PCI modems are winmodems, as are many (I was surprised to learn)
PCMCIA modems.
How does one query a modem with Kermit? We have been using PCPlus - ati0, ati1, etc.
You can't query most modems using dos. By now most of them have talked to each other over the aethernet and they decided to simply stop talking to dos idiots. Plus they are pretty pissed off about being seen as subordinate to the cables and pin-outs and many have opted for social security and refused to respond to anything other than wintel.
Our modems all answer us in DOS. We don't have Winmodems.
Your modems know DOS? Mine only understand ASCII, spoken in the Hayes dialect.
Mine are clever, they listen to PCPlus and Kermit.
Don't they just pass those on without *understanding* them?
