Grex Agora41 Item 111: Favorite Perfumes & Colognes???
Entered by eprom on Sun Apr 21 22:56:03 UTC 2002:

hmmmm.....

I've been wearing Estee Lauder Pleasure for men cologne to the
office as a causal everyday cologne. Lately I was thinking the
scent is a tad too fruity (citrus?) to be used in the evening
or more formal setting (dating?).

So I decided to go back to my local discount merchant and sample
some more toilet water. I'm looking for a warmer manly smell.

I found a few that really smelled great:

Joop for men had a really nice smell, but I think it smelled more
like purfume (and it had a pinkish hue, so maybe it WAS purfume).

Drakkar Noir smelled really good, but it has a reputation as being
a pimpin' type cologne. I'm not sure I want a scent that gives the
message that i'm a playa'

Christian Dior's Fahrenheit had a really strong wierd smell, but
after it wore off a little, I found it to be quite sexy.

I heard somewhere that women sometimes tend to be attracted to the
smell of their fathers cologne on guys they date. Should I slap on
some Old Spice or Aqua Velva?

What cologne(s) and/or perfume(s) are your favorites?

Do you wear cologne/perfume to the office? or just on special
occasions?

I wear Polo. I prefer the cologne but wear what I've been given. (When the
current stock disappears, I'll be buying my own again.)

i hate all perfumes and colognes. they either smell or irritate my senses.

there are a few oils i like ok - mostly the musky types.

i also like peoples' natural smell. not b.o. - but their natural odor.

#3 of 80 by buddy on Mon Apr 22 01:33:31 2002:

Ok my favorite perfume right now would have to be clinique happy. My mom
brought a small sample home from work, and i decided to smell it and it
smells really good. Well at least i think it does.

Never touch the stuff.

#5 of 80 by jmsaul on Mon Apr 22 02:16:53 2002:

What Scott said.

#6 of 80 by ea on Mon Apr 22 03:38:46 2002:

I don't use any of that stuff.

#7 of 80 by jaklumen on Mon Apr 22 03:57:18 2002:

I really don't like perfumes or colognes, either. Most people don't
apply them correctly, and wind up bathing in the stuff, and so many
I've smelled were scents I really didn't like.

"Fathom" and "Carrington" were scents that I did like, however.

Most of the time, shaving gel and deodorant seem to do fine.

resp:2 I know what you're saying, Carrie. Personal scent and body
odor are two different things-- the latter is caused by growth of
bacteria. I enjoy my wife's personal smell, although she finds that
strange.

#8 of 80 by senna on Mon Apr 22 04:06:12 2002:

I wear... deodorant, because I pretty much have to. Nothing else, though.
Why spend money to be artificial?

#9 of 80 by other on Mon Apr 22 04:20:13 2002:

I still have the same bottles of Aramis after shave and Royal Copenhagen
cologne that I got as gifts for my birthday almost 20 years ago. Perhaps
I should just throw them away....

#10 of 80 by goose on Mon Apr 22 04:26:56 2002:

Jospeh Abboud.

#11 of 80 by brighn on Mon Apr 22 04:44:54 2002:

#9> I still have part of a bottle of Aramis that's about that old, too. 21
years, I think. It's old enough to drink. =}

#12 of 80 by michaela on Mon Apr 22 05:19:35 2002:

My dad wears Canoe, which is a nice, distinguished smell. My boyfriend wears
Old Spice aftershave (YUM!!!) I also like Vanilla for men.

I don't wear perfume since I'm allergic to it, and high quantities on anyone
near me will give me an asthma attack.

#13 of 80 by edina on Mon Apr 22 16:41:36 2002:

I wear Dolce Vita by Christian Dior (it's the sister to Fahrenheit) - Lilac
perfume oil from the body shop, and Night Blooming Jasmine from Bath and Body
- not all at once of course. Happy is nice and I have contemplated buying
it.

For men - Drakkar will get you play, for sure. And Fahrenheith pretty much
drives me wild.

#14 of 80 by aruba on Mon Apr 22 16:45:33 2002:

I've heard that men's fragrances are the same as women's, only watered down.
Is that true?

#15 of 80 by morwen on Mon Apr 22 16:46:30 2002:

strong perfumes give me sinus trouble.

I prefer scents that are light and innocuous.

For a while my favorite scent was something called "Ambush" I don't
think they make it any more, though.

#16 of 80 by slynne on Mon Apr 22 17:00:12 2002:

Certain perfumes give me headaches but fortunately only when applied in
large amounts. A lot of people really do go overboard with the cologne.
Just today I had a bit of an incident (luckily the person was not
wearing a perfume that gives me a headache) where I went into the
restroom and the whole room was filled with her perfume smell. I try
not to be too judgmental about people who wear a lot of perfume though.
I used to do it myself. I used to layer the scent and everything. I
just didnt realize how obnoxious it is to other people.

I am kind of like oval I guess in that I like people's natural scents
but I also like the smell of certain soaps and shaving creams. I always
think it is really cool if someone lets you get close enough to smell
them. It is kind of special and that gets totally lost when someone
wears too much perfume.

i love the smell of soap on a clean person. we use baby soap, and people have
told me i smell good after washing with it. i just remebered every now and
then i wear a scented lotion - elizabeth arden's green tea body lotion. my
mom gave it to me so sometimes i use it. it's ok.

#18 of 80 by slynne on Mon Apr 22 20:50:23 2002:

I use Dr Bronner's soaps in various flavors and people have told me
that I smell good when I use them. My favorite is lavender but I also
sometimes use the tea tree kind or the peppermint kind. I used to have
some lavendar lotion but an ex roommate stole it.

I like vetiver. I buy a tiny bottle of the pure stuff at Capriland's
once every few years. Hard to describe -- it doesn't smell like
cologne at all. I also like Geurlain's Habit Rouge and Chanel for Men.

#20 of 80 by beeswing on Mon Apr 22 23:52:02 2002:

Drakkar on a guy (or Gaultier's Le Male)... mmm hmmm.

I prefer to smell edible.

I was playing with my nephew last night and he still has that neat baby
smell. I love it.

#21 of 80 by jmsaul on Mon Apr 22 23:57:54 2002:

I have to digress here a second. A couple of our friends have had babies
recently, and a lot of people talk about that "wonderful baby smell."

The only smells I've ever perceived from babies are bad ones. If it isn't
sour milk, it's dirty diapers.

What are people talking about? My wife's never smelled it either, and I've
heard guys claim to have, so I don't think this is sex-linked.

#22 of 80 by glenda on Tue Apr 23 00:04:15 2002:

Babies have that wonderful baby smell right after a bath or being freshly
diapered. Mostly Johnson and Johnson baby products, i.e. baby shampoo,
powder, soap (boby wash now), etc.

#23 of 80 by jp2 on Tue Apr 23 00:35:38 2002:

This response has been erased.

#24 of 80 by happyboy on Tue Apr 23 01:11:17 2002:

can't stand perfumes or colognes. people who wear them
are cretins who have no sense of personal boundary.

#25 of 80 by jmsaul on Tue Apr 23 01:23:41 2002:

So the "wonderful baby smell" is actually the baby powder? Aha.

#26 of 80 by bru on Tue Apr 23 02:00:42 2002:

perfume bad, powder bad, deodorant, (nuscented) good

#27 of 80 by slynne on Tue Apr 23 14:38:07 2002:

I love the scent of patchouli on men but I wouldnt recomend it to any
guy who wants to attract anyone since hardly anyone else seems to like
it. That is why I dont wear it anymore. I always think it is funny that
while most perfumes that a lot of people like either give me a headache
or just gross me out, I like the scent that is probably most hated of
all perfumes and colognes. hahaha.

#28 of 80 by oval on Wed Apr 24 00:49:54 2002:

yea i like patchouli too, but would also NEVER wear since most people hate
it so much. kind of weird ..

you know i fucking hate how when you want to go into a dept store you HAVE
to walk through the fucking perfume zone. they should pass out gas masks.

#29 of 80 by danr on Wed Apr 24 01:29:15 2002:

I have some Obsession, but I don't use it because once you start, the
smell just gets into everything. I like the scent, but not 24/7.

#30 of 80 by keesan on Wed Apr 24 01:55:19 2002:

I like perfume as worn by flowers - lily of the valley, rose, black locust
- but why do people want to pretend they are flowers?

#31 of 80 by md on Wed Apr 24 02:03:39 2002:

Vetiver is a species of grass. "Whatever is commonest, cheapest,
nearest, easiest, is Me."

#32 of 80 by edina on Wed Apr 24 14:32:22 2002:

I don't pretend I am a flower. I like the scent. I like it enough to wear
it.

#33 of 80 by keesan on Wed Apr 24 15:29:55 2002:

So why do you want other people to smell your favorite scents when they are
near you?

#34 of 80 by tsty on Wed Apr 24 15:59:02 2002:

collateral attraction ...

#35 of 80 by edina on Wed Apr 24 17:16:01 2002:

Ok - it's like this. I am incredibly scent oriented - I sometimes I have more
of a scent memory than other things. If someone wears a perfume, it just
melds in with that memory. My mom and Diva. My grandfather and Aramis. Gary
and Fahrenheit. So people wearing perfume don't annoy me or make me sick -
they just add to the memory.

And Sindi, you can believe this or not - I get complimented a lot on the
scents I wear, so it can't be all that bad.

#36 of 80 by grexalot on Wed Apr 24 17:17:09 2002:

Right, like, wow, people who do not wear perfume stink! Oh, wow!

#37 of 80 by morwen on Thu Apr 25 01:01:21 2002:

I forgot to mention, I also like the scents of gardenias, lilacs, and
most fruity perfumes, so long as they are not too strong.

So many people put on too much that it nearly gags me when I get to
within five feet of them. The reason being that, when you apply just
enough to wrists and neck, you can't smell it. Best bet is to apply
perfume to the ankles and the insides of the knees. That way you
still get the effect of the perfume without putting on too much.
In the case of those perfume sprays, spritz a little into the air and
walk through it. That'll get you just enough without having to bathe
in it.

#38 of 80 by happyboy on Thu Apr 25 01:56:12 2002:

re36: FRED MILTON!!!

#39 of 80 by slynne on Thu Apr 25 13:53:33 2002:

Wow, People who wear too much perfume, wow, are so not #1
