Squirt isn't just grapefruit flavored. That's Fresca. Squirt is more
of a citrus blend.

resp:102 - just lemon and lime. I double-checked the squirt label. It
*is* mainly grapefruit. I wonder why Squirt (in my case Diet Squirt)
and Fresca taste so damned different?

Isn't Fresca a diet soda?

Yes, but even diet squirt tastes sweeter. I think it may be the extra
flavors that squirt adds that makes it taste different.

re #107, yes Fresca is a diet soda, and they have just re-formulated it
to change sweeteners to Splenda, and added new flavors (black cherry
fresca and tangerine fresca among them)

remember the clear cola craze of a few years back? They had Pepsi and Diet
Pepsi Clear and Tab Clear among others. The thing is most people weren't
obsessed with the idea of having their cola look like seltzer water.

I doubt if they have it in Michigan though unless it's in Whole Foods.

Trek has a pretty good grape and a cranberry grapefruit.
And thier all natural line of lemon-lime and orange is pretty good.
The rest I'm not too crazy about; the Trek Fruit tastes too much like
koolaid..

I don't know if Coke and Pepsi will go Splenda or not. They've got a huge
market share already and they don't need to change their formulas of their
big sellers (diet coke, diet pepsi, diet mt. dew, etc).. they may come out
with alternates but even Coke Zero is still nutrasweet mixed with another (not
new) sweetener.
Splenda is a lot more expensive than these other sweeteners for a variety of
reasons. Primarily, aspartame is something like 100 times sweeter than sugar.
That means you need a LOT less VOLUME of it to sweeten 100,000,000 bottles
of soda.
Fresca and Rite switched to Splenda because they need to improve their taste,
and they don't have a billion customer market share to piss off by
reformulating.

Coke and Pepsi ARE committed to Splenda. re #117 Pepsi One was re-
formulated last year with Splenda. They also came out with Diet Coke
w/Splenda. They at present make Diet Coke versions with both Splenda
and Nutrasweet.

Just because they have products that use Splenda doesn't mean they're
"committed" to Splenda. It just means that they've introduced new products
("Diet Coke with Splenda") or reformulated unpopular products ("Pepsi One").
they're not gonna switch their flagship products to Splenda unless they can
do it without changing the taste, and only then if it'll save them money.
