Had a low-key but very fun night out tonight. I must be getting
older... liking low-key things much more than partying like a rock star.

I seem to have adjusted to this early morning thing already. I woke up at
7:30 this morning without my body doing much complaining, and it's a weekend.

We had a nice visit with tpryan and Jim may have gotten his microwave oven
timer to behave (Tim's - Jim gave up on Jim's timer). It timed supper
properly anyway. Saw Tim's video of the Blue Angels practicing overhead where
he used to work (but could not work on practice days). Zoom, zoom!

IHB the U.S. beat Mexico 2-0 today in the world cup second round! The
U.S. advances to the quarterfinals where they will have a showdown with
Germany. I watched the game here in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), where it was
on mid afternoon. The football/soccer fans here are serious fans,
football is like religion and the world cup is like a holy time. You
really cant appreciate in the u.s. how big the world cup is in the rest of
the world. The games are on everywhere here, in open air cafes on every
street, on loudspeakers, in stores, everywhere. And the U.S. is in the
round of eight! I am a proud american tourist here today!
btw, Kuala Lumpur is quite nice-- KL has its own twin towers, tallest
buildings in the world. My city used to have twin towers. Im envious.

USA won!
Congratulations.
At least the US team doesn't consist of spoilt brat boys, like the
Dutch team. Way to go!
I am envious too, but for other easons.

Way cool, Richard . . . are you headed north to Thailand after Malaysia?
IHB this was a better weekend than the last two, and that I was able to
help someone else who's going through a bad patch. I'm also to help a
friend in an arbitration against the company that used unethical means
to fire him. I'll be his advocate in a hearing on July 8. Should be
interesting to say the least. And last but not least, I've been
*ordered* to contact an individual (I'm not putting his name here)that
knew me when I was younger at Merril Lynch. Seems they want to try and
steal me away from my current company. Might as well see what they're
offering.

even if the World Cup *was* a big deal here, I'd still be pushing for
better coverage of rugby.

even more fun to play, if you've got the shape and the stamina. The
camaraderie can't be beat in any sport anywhere.

I played Rugby overseas on foreign study. I was the hooker. It's been
about 5 years since I've played and I don't get a chance to watch very
often, so I don't remember the rules all that well anymore.

We got one out of the four modems Leeron gave us to work at 33K (it claims
to be 56K) by fiddling with jumpers. Another works at 33K but only as Com1
(more jumpers to experiment with). ONe is 14.4 but won't get a dial tone and
the other is 2400. So I now have a modem for the new computer made from JEP's
old motherboard. Also a 4M video card from LK and a faster CPU (150 instead
of 133MHz). And ten more computers to try to put together out of pieces from
LK _ motherboards, cpus, floppy drives, etc. Lots of puzzle solving fun.
Jim is especially enjoying the hard drive that works okay if you boot from
c:, but if you boot from a: it won't then recognize c:. We just ran into a
laptop computer with the same problem.

Get it right, she's happy about less obsolete hardware. And she goes into
depth about it in at least 2 other items (which I have forgotten, I live in
the current age and am tired of pages of text about how she, and/or Jim, have
gotten such out of date hardware to work).
I am just asking that it stay in those items that she has already started or
taken over.

How about people put sports stuff in a sports item instead of in the happy
item? Same with movies. I am happy that we found which computer was stinky
due to a mouse nest in it and we recycled it already.
