I feel most for signet, who homed in very nicely - almost. But, it's
happened to many of us....all "part of the game". Let's see...

Wow, I was going to put some semi-witty comment on my octavo guess,
but decided I didn't have the time (for other reasons than aruba
being set to enter the same word). That might have been the difference
in times...

Okay, I'm a-thinkin' of a 6-letter word...

Okay, I'll bite. What is "cronic"? (I could not find it in the OED or
Webster's New Universal Unabridged and that's about as far as I feel
obliged to prove someone's guess--although I'm sure Rane has a good
cite).

Heh...well, I was trying to spell chronic with 6 letters, and..... I
thought it didn't look right, but wasn't sure why not. How about, from
"crone"? The verb forms "to crone", and "croning" are in the dictionary,
as well as the suffix "-ic", which it says means "like...(that which is
indicated in the root)". So cronic means "like a crone". How's that?

thanks for sympathy/empathy. I guess I should have paid closer attention to
my guess but at the time we weren't even close.
