The choke was wide open according to the report. They also said the distance
was 30 yards. Neither jive with a 28 gauge birdshot. 10 yards makes more
sense...and for over 200 pellets to hit you on a wide open choke then we're
talking maybe 4 yards. Cheney had to be drunk if he was spinning around to
shoot behind the way they were headed directly at another hunter.

Sex, guns, and violence. Its a twisted world when gun violence gets less
attention than consentual sex.

FoxNews Journamalism ("Q" is Brit Hume):
THE VICE PRESIDENT: ...bird flushed and went to my right, off to the
west. I turned and shot at the bird, and at that second, saw Harry
standing there. Didn't know he was there --
Q You had pulled the trigger and you saw him?
THE VICE PRESIDENT: Well, I saw him fall, basically. It had happened so
fast...I fired, and there's Harry falling. And it was, I'd have to say,
one of the worst days of my life, at that moment...He was struck in the
right side of his face, his neck and his upper torso on the right side
of his body.
Q And you -- and I take it, you missed the bird.

See, not only do they not find WMD but they can't even hit a bird.
These guys are running our country.
We gave you $100 billion for Iraqi reconstruction. 25% of it is MISSING.
What happened? Why are all our necessary services being chopped off at the
elbows and knees to pay for these mistakes?
Do we get a response from Cheney on these issues after his hiding for 3 1/2
years? No. We hear about his Barney Fife weekend after 3 1/2 years.
THANKS!!!

It strikes me that if one is holding a gun in the usual right-handed
manner, there is poorer peripheral vision to the right than to the left
when tracking a moving target, especially if one keeps both eyes open. I'm
not a hunter so I don't know if this really the case. How is the shooter's
visual perception different when a right-handed shooter is tracking a
target to the right or left?

I wonder what went through ol' Harry's mind at the crucial moment.
There can't be anything scarier than having Dick Cheney suddenly turn on
you with a shotgun.

Scarier would be that after you're laying there wounded, Mary Cheney comes
out in coveralls playing dueling banjos and you hear Rumsfeld saying "You got
a perty mouth, boy"

The county shriff, Ramon Salinas, has said that there's no evidence of
negligence and no charges will be filed:

>The county shriff, Ramon Salinas, has said that there's no evidence of
>negligence and no charges will be filed:
And a fine investigation it was. When he got word from "Captain Kirk"
(snicker) that there'd been a shooting involving the VP, and Kirk had
been denied entry to the ranch (by a border patrol agent), Sheriff
Salinas didn't rush right out; instead, he called the former sheriff,
who happens now to be a ranch hand for the very wealthy Ms Armstrong who
owns the ranch where the shooting occured. The former sheriff said,
"Uh...let me get back to you on that...", and indeed called later to
say, "Mmm...Accident. Yep, nothing to worry about. Accident, swear."
So, Salinas decided not to send anyone out until the next morning.
Thus far, the sheriff is refusing to release the supporting witness
statements or other coroborrating documents (did he get the victim's
medical report with BAC and wound details?).
Police report: http://tinyurl.com/ck8nw
Texas Parks and Wildlife report: http://tinyurl.com/arex4
Other fun tidbits (some from the investigative reports, some not):
* Cheney blasted his victim with an Italian-made Perazzi Brescia, MSRP
$23,000 (what--American-made not good enough for the VP?)
* Cheney said in his interview with Fox that the bird he was after went
to his right, but the sheriff's report says Cheney spun to his left.
* Whittington refused the investigator's request to tape-record the
interview, saying his voice was "raspy".
* After the 78-year-old man was seriously wounded, Secret Service called
for a helicopter to med-evac him to the nearest trauma center, but the
VP's doctors(?) overruled them, instead opting to send him via ambulance
to a small non-trauma hospital (a long ride over back country roads).
Very shortly after arriving there, hospital personnel insisted on
sending Whittington via helicopter to the nearest trauma center, where
he eventually arrived more than 2-1/2 hours after being shot.

Of course this was an accident. Duh. And it can happen to even excellent
hunters, who aren't drinking, are generally thought of as nice people.
I'm sorry this happened as it's seems to be distracting a whole lot of
people from real issues.

I would just like to point out that the idea that this was "just an
accident" and that accidents like these go with the territory of bird
hunting is bullshit. I would also like to add that it is interesting how
the Whitehouse is blaming the victim, and shucking responsibility off of
Cheney. Fucking pricks. I bet the gun-control groups are sucking this up
too, after all it is their position that nobody can be trusted with guns.
But, I do find some solace in that the NRA is not playing the political
hypocricy game that the Whitehouse seems to be doing.
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/13865078.htm:
"The National Rifle Association places the onus of responsibility on
the person pulling the trigger rather than the recipient of the
gunshot.
"If that was just a regular Joe Blow, they'd say it was carelessness,"
said Peggy Bodner, executive vice president of the Association of New
Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs, an affiliate of the NRA.
Bodner compared an unintentional shooting to a motorist who rear-ends
another car. "It's like if you were in a car and struck somebody from
behind," she said. "Even if the other person stopped short, it's your
fault."
Bird hunters work under challenging circumstances that require strict
adherence to rules to prevent errant fire. Birds flushed from the
underbrush take flight suddenly, and hunters must swing their guns and
fire in a split second. The typical protocol requires hunters to stay
abreast of one another and to fire only in a prescribed range ahead of
the line. If a bird leaves the agreed "field of fire," a responsible
hunter must let the bird escape."
I think the NRA should donate Cheney a voucher for a free hunters'
safety class.
