I meant sassy's post, as in "trolling for fish". Sort of fishing
for nasty replys.
That' just such an odd thing to say.

oh, I see. Yup, an odd thing to say- looked like it was mostly a try at
shock value. Too old a line to get much. Now, how to bring this item
back to something like a reasonable topic?

Where was it at?
We need to start something new and contraversial to get the talk going!
Like...How 'bout some alter descriptions. That'd be a cool thing to
share and discuss.

Actually, I've heard some male in-your-face wiccans do like the word
"warlock" for the same reason that in-your-face gays like the word "queer"
(the latter of which has gained wider currency among the appropriate
community)...

alter egos or 'alter tops? or 'alter toplesses? <g>
I know, you want to know about the stuff on our altars. One of mine has
the iron in a corner, behind the scrying bowl, goddess and god candles etc.
Another has the VCR in a corner, beside the fire candle and antlered crown
and pillar candles. Can you tell I'm short on space (especially up too high
for small boys to reach) and not overly organized?
Another day I'll describe a working altar and elemental altars.
You?

Actually to go back to Warlocks. I know someone who goes by that. He takes
great pride in being untrustworthy. He thinks "Humans" are beneath him, and
sees no reason not to play with them like toys. I don't know much about
what he believes but he says he's a warlock.

re:#88 I'll bet they're 17 and wear all black too! The in-your-face thing
isn't isn't any nicer in any form. re:#88 That's an alter! I think anyone can
appreciate the reality of an alter for for most people. I know only a couple
people that can afford the space to have a room for such things alone. Sounds
like a good honor to the Mother! I'm crunched for space now too, so my ancestor
alter is a doll and a glass of water, and my alter to Chango is still in a
box! Soon, soon. When it's up it's really pretty. I have a really nice
statue of St. Barbara, a wooden machete, and a really nice read and white
cloth. As well as a lot of other things. I'll describe it when I get it back
up, I just moved. re:#90 Insanity, I don't know if he's really a"warlock", but
he's surely not a Witch by any tradition I've ever heard. I *do* know he's an
asshole!" Humans are beneath him"...ROTFL!!! Ahhhh, sorry. Right. This person
needs to get in touch with reality. Sounds like he's suffering from the power
trip some of us do go through when you realize you *can* affect change in your
life. It happens, and usually passes, but not before some embarassing
statements apparently! A friend of mine, when faced with odd eople like the one
you're describing allways says, "It's all material". Good for stories and
such:)

Brenna, you might ask him what that makes him-chopped liver? He still has
to eat, sleep and shit, just like the rest of us. Other than that, I'd
say Phaedrus put it about right.
Phaedrus, I'm a lot pressed for space. My front room is office, library,
guest room, play room as well as temple room. That's why the iron and
the VCR have to share the altar space. We manage. I'm really not all
that good at carving out personal space and keeping it sacrosanct. One
thing that is special; in the Winter I keep the Earth Mother stone from
the Nemeton (the Grove's outdoor ritual site), so it won't be neglected.
When we first went to prepare and dedicate that space, I walked a wee bit
down a path and found this bit of rock obviously flaked off of a larger
one. It's a perfect goddess figure- waist and hips and shoulders, and
when you turn it over- a butt. Wow! Since I seem most attached to it
of the Grove, I keep it and bring it to rituals. Between times, it (I
just can't call a rock "she", even if it represents and focusses the Mother.)
lives above my desk, with the scrying bowl and stuff. Deribitely not as
formal as yours when it's up, Don't wait too long...
Woder if anyone will think to ask why you have a saint statue...

Outta curiosity, what are witches, by common current Wiccan thinking? Is
it just folks who follow Wiccan rituals, or is there something more to it?
Also, is the term female-specific? I had the impression, probably from
watching Bewitched, that warlocks were the male equivalent of witches, which
is also how my Webster's describes them.

Ask 20 different Wiccans what a witch is, and you'll get at
least 20 different responses... >8)
One thing that every Wiccan I know agrees on, though, is that
"witch" is applicable to both genders. "Warlock" comes from a
Scottish word meaning "oath-breaker", and I am *not* an
oath-breaker. (But I am Scottish. >8)

Take the booze elsewhere, folks...
Ajax: Modern Wiccan schools and their (rough) definition of witch:
Famtrad (Family Tradition): A direct descendant of a witch is a witch.
Gardnerian: Just about anybody who says so, but youmust have the right
training to be a Gardnerian.
Alexandrian: Whatever the Gardnerians say.
Buckland: Someone who has a basic level of knowwledge of witchcraft, and
who has seriously and with full understanding dedicated themselves to a witch's
path.
Feminism: Anyone who has dedicated themselves toa path.
Separatist feminism: Any woman who has dedicated themselves to a path.
(These are very broad, and somewhat tounge-in-cheek, but hopefully gives
the range of answer to the question, Ajax.)
