Turns out *The Incredible Mr.* Limpet wasn't a *shell*fish... ;-)

But to augment Rane's info:

limpet Function: noun Etymology: Middle English lempet, from Old English
lempedu, from Medieval Latin lampreda lamprey Date: before 12th century
1 : a marine gastropod mollusk (especially families Acmaeidae and Patellidae)
that has a low conical shell broadly open beneath, browses over rocks or
timbers in the littoral area, and clings very tightly when disturbed
2 : one that clings tenaciously to someone or something
3 : an explosive device designed to cling magnetically to a metallic surface
(as the hull of a ship)

I wonder why Don Knotts wasn't Mr. Flounder or the like? I guess we had
to wait for _Animal House_ for Flounder to make an appearance. Okay,
off I go with quarter in hand to the trusty Vendo-O-Word machine...

(In case anyone is concerned about "nimrod," it may be capitalized or not.
If capitalized, it refers to "a descent of Ham represented in Genesis
as a mighty hunter and a king of Shinar." If not capitalized, it simply
means "hunter." Source: Web. 9th New Collegiate.)

(How'd it get it's meaning as an insult, then?)

It's an insult? I thought it was a compliment, meaning someone very successful
at what they undertake.

(I never said "nimrod" didn't have other meanings. I just
wanted to point out that it could be capitalized or not.
I have heard the insult use of nimrod, btw. However, the
hunter reference, especially a successful hunter, is what I
usually think when I hear the word--but I knew it was based
on a proper noun, so I looked it up.)
