[As an aside, or meta-question, would anyone be interested in an
unlimited version of letter match? That is, one where the scorer tells
us how many letters the word is and we proceed from there. It might
take a long time to solve some words, but it would open up the
"universe" of possibilities way beyond the few dozen thousand 6-letter
or 5-letter words. Just a thought.]

How about an open version in which a word can be chosen of any length.
Any letters that hang over the end of the other word would then always
fail to match, in that case. Sure, I'd be interested.

Okay, I'm thinking of a six-letter word...
Re 822, do you mean the word to be guessed is still 6 letters but the
guesses can be any length as long as it's 6 letters minimum?
