great fun... Haven't been in this good a mood in a loong time
Only thing I need to hear now, is from UofM on a job and I'll be happy :) (the
job by the way is pretty much in the bag since I know the boss) :) But it's

Last Saturday I went to a party and re-acquainted with a couple of
friends from the time we were university students. Next to taht I was
able to do the same with loads of others from those days. It felt like
a reunion without being one. It was wonderful and all of us got really
drunk.
The afternoon before the party I went on a fast and nice 65 mile bike
ride.

The family gathering that went with Sarah's blessing went really well,
and normally I'm really edgy with my mother and my maternal
grandparents. After church, we had lunch at my in-laws (man, I
haven't had such a delicious deli-style sandwich in a lloonnnnggg
time) and Julie and I talked more with my youngest sister, who visited
us at home earlier. There were many pictures taken, both film and
digital. One of these days, I'll remember to take over a floppy so
I'll have more pictures to share with folks.

A nice morning of actual physical labor (I'm doing the TOP setup, which really
starts next week) followed by Grexing with reheated Raja Rani.

meany. :p
IHB I now know for certain the results of my attempt to certify in
rapier last month. I was not surprised at all.
IHB I somehow managed to teach myself one-handed cartwheels on Sunday.
I can only do them left-handed, for now . . .
IHB I learned how to catch various dangerous flying objects. :-p

One more roll of film into the trip album, and it and the previous
roll annotated with typed notecards. Only three rolls to go.
And I found a Sunday NYTimes for sale, and had a ball with the
crossword puzzle (I love goofy themes). Spoilers:

IHB I met the author of the book Im reading tonight. Its a massive 1100
page book about Lyndon Johnson's years in the Senate in the late 40's and
50's. Its an amazing book about power, the hunger for power, how it makes
you and how it can corrupt you. Its actually book three of a four volume
mega-biography of Johnson's life written by pulitzer prize winning
historian Robert Caro. Caro was at Barnes and Noble here in NYC tonight
to discuss the book (he lives not far from that location) Its always nice
to hear the voice behind the words, and when I spoke with him after his
lecture, he was very warm and kind. I recommend his book, "Master of the
Senate" highly, and that even though I'm only on page 200 of 1100
(probably take a few weeks to finish this one, even though it is a page
turner!)

okay, so my high school calc teacher is still da bomb after all these years.
I emailed him that me and another high school friend of mine wanted to chat...
he emails back telling me to meet him at this fancy steak place at such and
such a time... his treat and no arguments. :)
All this from the guy who teaches Taylor series right after linear
approximation so that the kids are plenty familiar with Taylor series when
the AP comes. :)

Re 784 That's cool - I lived next door to one of the art teachers at Tecumseh
- I've known him for about 25 years - he was my driver's ed teacher. he and
his wife were in DC for the weekend - they took me to dinner on Saturday, plus
his wife gave me gas money after I took her and another woman down to Mt.
Vernon. They pretty much filled my tank.

Whew. Back at work after a very nice relaxing weekend at home; things aren't
so crazy as I expected, and I have a Wings game to look forward to tonight.
Among other things. ;)

Ok, so I am a new user ... :) That is happy and I am learning Unix and Linux
with a bit of gracefulness so I am happy about that not to mention that I have
a great new job and a new car and a new apartment.... :^) Good happiness even
though this should be named the Summer Happy sheet instead of Spring... Oh
and it is warm that is good too....

I bet that chadadam is from India and is working in the US ;) Enjoy summer,
it won't last too long.
I am happy because we spent all day working on my three bikes and Jim
eventually managed to get the gears to shift properly on the nicest one by
shortening the cable housing, then fiddling with cable length and limiting
screw adjustment, so it does not skip or omit gears and it has a nice new
lightweight handlebar 1 lb and 4" less than the old one and better grips and
we can go biking to Independence Lake this summer to swim in hopefully less
than the 1.75 hours the old bike took to get there (12 miles of dirt).
And Jim is happy because the files on the d: partition of the computer that
he sacrificed to Win95, which disappeared when he made d: bootable, and did
not come back when he moved the files, reformatted, and put them back, are
now there again today. They were apparently playing hide and seek.
ANd there are finally fresh turnip greens, lettuce and arugula out back.

Got the last of the trip photos into the album and annotated!
(But I don't think I'm going to have the energy to make a duplicate
album to send to friends; they're going to be disappointed.)
And Thai food for dinner. Yum.

Holy crap!!!!!! I am so freaking happy it's amazing - Carolina totally kept
up with Detroit and the master of them all, Ron Francis, nailed down his Hall
of Fame Legacy!!! The US DOMINATED Portugal - although that second goal to
Landon Donavan as much by surprise as anyone watching. And Ireland, sweet
Ireland, managed to tie it up with Germany!!! Rock on!!!!

An interesting day in sports. I was moping about last night following the
Wings loss, complaining to the girlfriend that I would "have" to wake up at
5 to watch the US get slaughtered by Portugal. The alarms came, I dragged
myself out of bed (with some thoughts of abandoning it all and sleepin gtill
7) and the US made it worth my while almost immediately, scoring a goal three
and a half minutes in and two more before the game was 40 minutes old. With
its three best players out due to injuries of varying severity, no less.
I thought you didn't care about the US team, edina. :)

With a win like that, how could I not. I am really getting into the whole
WC right now - it's a great time for football, that's for sure.
When, oh whe, will Arena put Agoos on the bench?

Hopefully, this will stir up more interest in the World Cup. The
American fans are very devoted, but few in number.
We are a bit of an oddity in our devotion to our American football--
we call soccer such instead of football because only we have something
like the NFL. Out here in the Yakimex portions of Yakima (and the
whole Valley for that matter), Latin devotion to soccer is VERY
obvious.
Now, rugby's *my* game, but I doubt it will get better coverage any
time soon. If I was in a LOT better shape, I'd consider getting back
into a club.

Anyhow, I am happy because I am having people visit me from out of town
tomorrow. I have one friend flying in from Denver and some other
friends flying in from California. Then, in just one week, another
friend from Chicago is coming to visit me. Pretty cool!
