I'm waiting to see Elliot in concert again. The band is made up mostly of
old classmates of mine. They played the Halfway Inn a few months ago and
also played Hillapalooza last month. Their sound is a sort of jangly noisy
type that's been popularized by bands such as Sonic Youth and Cracker,
complete with bass riffs reminiscent of the Stone Roses and the Cure.
Vocals are REM-ish.

Damn good bands no one's mentioned yet: Bermuda Mohawk, Dan's Big Ego (both of
these are original somewhat classic-rock based power trios who reek of power
and tastefulness), and my own (not just 'cause it's mine), i.e. The MayTr

Uh...that depends on where you live, i think this item was made for Ann
Arbor local bands...if you live somewhere else then that is why we have
not metioned them (mostly because we don't know of them)...but
anyways...what "style" of bands are they?

New Morsel CD is out produced by Steve Albini (ex-Big Black produced
PJ Harvey). It's called Noise Floor. It very rhythmic and noisy I really liked
what I heard which was bits and pieces of a couple of cuts. It is more polished
then the previous album though...

David Kerschbaum (formerly loginID "alpha") is selling copies of his latest
effort. It's an album with ten songs, ranging from introspective to
ludicrous.

Wally Pleasant (East Lansingite) has two CDs of his humorous one-man
folksy songs. It's odd to have a photo of the bowling alley you bowl at
on a CD you own (of course, I have an album with a photo of Berkley
(MI) High School on it, and that's a nationally known artist...
Trivia time: Name the artist and the LP).

I'll elaborate on #96:
the band is called, simply, Dave, and the album is entitled
_my_personal_collection_of_grapefruit_, which nicely points out
both the personal as well as the comical sides that the album
contains dually, although the content leans more to the personal
side. The album was recorded in two separate studios, and was mixed
at WKBD-TV in Detroit.
The first three songs deal mostly with human relationships,
and the gray areas they tend to encompass. "Final Regret" was
inspired by a friend's attempted suicide. "Human" is a
statement of human fraility and forgiveness. The song "Love You"
written for a brother's wedding, is a celebration of love and
committment that stays away from the open carnality that most
artists today confuse it with.
The fourth song, "1999", isn't a remake of the artist-
formerly-known-as-Prince hit, but it too is an apocolyptic
song. The twist is that the song could just as easily be about
the Holocaust, or any war. This "1999" isn't a call to
hedonistic escapism, but rather a wake-up call for the future.
From here, the album begins to get a tad silly with
an unlisted song that is affectionate known as "Spoon". It's
not what you'd expect, although musically it leads right
into "Why, Nora?", an almost-Seattle-sounding song with lyrics
describing an attempt to get a friend to open up.
"Subparty" also is a noisefest, and the only song
that *wasn't* recorded in a basement. Once you listen to
it, you'll know where it was recorded...
Dave hits the waters of relationships one more time
with "Reprieve", and then retraces his steps with an
acoustic version of "Final Regret". He then takes the plunge
into confusion with the varied musical stylings of the
misleadingly named "Bongo Blues".
It's a decent first album from Dave. Sometimes the
transitions are a bit much, which hurts the album as a
whole, but if the listener can appreciate each song
individually, it's worth listening to.
The album is 40 minutes, and available on
cassette only. You can inquire about purchasing by e-mailing
Dave at:
