*Next* tuesday? Tower was playing the Sugar album in the store this past
weekend, and they had stacks of it. It sounded interesting, which is why
I mentioned it...

Hmm.. I thought it was supposed to have been released yesterday..
In any case, I bought it, though I haven't had time to listen yet..
Could they have been playing stuff from the "Helpless" CD single/EP?

Nope, Mike, it was definitely the album CD; Tower had both the "regular"
and premium copper packaging.

The Kinks, "Village Green Preservation Society".

R.E.M., "Reckoning". Unfortunately just the old copy; the new one with
bonus tracks is missing, dammit.

New one with bonus tracks? Btw, is there expected to be a single
released for "Drive" before the album comes out?

 "Nerve Net" - Brian Eno.

Mike in #87: The first three R.E.M. albums have been reissued in the UK
under the series title of "The IRS Years". 4 or 5 bonus tracks have been
tacked on to the end of each CD, about 1/3 of which were on DEAD LETTER
OFFICE (sorta pointless to add those), 1/3 of which are single B-sides
which were never collected, and about 1/3 new.

Schoolkids wants an extortionate $36 for these, they're $10 cheaper at
Flat Black & Circular in East Lansing.

RECKONING has the gem of the bonus tracks: a cover of "Tighten Up" by
Archie Bell & The Drells, previously available only on a fanzine flexidisc.

Sugar, "Copper Blue". The single "Helpless" is pretty good, but so far about
half the album seems flat. Hmm, I felt that way about Bob Mould's "Workbook",
too....

  Big Star - "#1 Record"

(the UK R.E.M. discs were $24 at either Sprockets or Record Exchange when
I was shopping earlier this evening.. I'll wait a bit and see if they ever
get released in the U.S. (or better yet if they just release a compilation
  disc of the bonus stuff..))

The Weather Channel, again. Actually, the Weather Channel plays
one of my favorite jazz pieces during the Local Forecast, "Eye
of the Hurricane," by Joe Sample.
