Re #73 -- More tapes?!?!?!? Did you not hear me say (after the initial
"oomph!"), "Oh what a surprise...more tapes..."? =) You *do* need some cd's
for your cool new CD-Rom drive, and I'm debating giving you my "Lost Boys"
soundtrack.

reaching way back to janc in #4 -- Sheila Chandra's old stuff, from back
before her five year recording hiatus, are some of my favorite albums.
I'm particularly happy to see NADA BRAHMA back in print again, as my LP
was a little dinged. But for some reason I don't seem too able to
connect with her current work; I liked her better as the Indipop star,
I guess.

Re 64: thanks Vanessa, that is interesting. I think I need to
listen to some new people.

Does anyone know a) if Steeleye Span's stuff has been, or will be, released
on CD, and if so b) where I can find it? I have a collection of LP's two and
a half feet long, and no turntable anymore. I find I really miss Steeleye
Span, "Parcel of Rogues" and "Commoner's Crown" in particular.

Interested in buying a turntable, cheap? I have a spare from when everybody
was giving up vinyl, and can't imagine finding a use for it anytime soon.

Void likes Steeleye Span? The things one never would have suspected.
OK if I jump this thread to a new item in the music conference, void?
I can add some stuff about the recent albums and the upcoming US tour.

I've actually been looking into buying a turntable, scott.
We should talk.

I believe Steeleye Span is on CD now. I heard that on a ham repeater
in Windsor a while ago. Couldn't talk to them to find out more about it,
which I wanted to do. So perhaps its a canadian release? I like them too.

I always used to think Steeleye Span was a mispronunciation of Steely Dan.
Steely Dan is of course much more popular...

Thats great--I'd never thought of it that way, and I'd a danfan.

Go ahead and enter a new item in the music .cf if you haven't already, krj.
And yes, I've liked Steeleye Span ever since I saw them perform "All Around
My Hat" on "Top of the Pops." ;)

Re #79: A lot of Sheila Chandra's Indipop albums have been recently reissued.
I have a couple. I really don't know which I like best. Having been exposed
to them all pretty much at once, I don't differentiate much.

they had broken up! And did you also say there was new material out? Where

I'm into ambient and trance these days. Future Sound of London, Aphex Twin,
Seefeel, Orb. When I want lyrics I will turn to Leonard Cohen, Ride, Pulp
or The Smiths.

Pulp got lyrics?
Ok, I agree on Leonard, but pulp? (Maybe even the Smiths)

As I see it, the human voice is an instrument also; therefore it
really doesn't interest me too much whether lyrics are
good or not. As long the stuff ain't politically
dubious, it's all o.k.. But he/she who fails to touch
my soul with singing is right out. It even doesn't
matter whether a singer has a skilled voice or not.
It's the impact that matters.

I guess these days I alternate between 80s post-punk stuff like
the Throwing Muses or Camper Van Beethoven, and "world music," like
Macedonian brass bands, music from the middle east (Bachir Attar), etc.
This is just my mood lately on any given day I'll listen to anything
from late Beethoven string quartets to K.D. Lang to be-bop. About the only
music I don't like is most recent country music or synthpop.
