My undying respect and the knoweledge that you were right first (aren't feeling
special right about now?)! (By the way, it was "Heathers", but I won't nitpick
because it could have been a typo...)

Ok...since we're on the topic of musical suicides...name this one:
"...Don't try suicide, you're just gonna hate it/
        Don't try suicide, nobody cares..."

What is really stupid is the big ad in Metro Times c/o 89X "We'll really miss
you Kurt" (whine, whine, whine) Yeah, he'll really appreciate it now!

What, they should have placed the ad *before* he did it?

Of topic, I think, but:

I have a rather 'strange' perspective on suicide. I kinda think anyone who
does it may be a lot of things, but they are certainly not cowards. I've
comptempated suicide, as I think everyone must at least once in life, and
really REALLY the only thing at one point that stopped me was fear. I was
afraid of what would happen. Death isn't something I've fully come to
terms with. I don't know what others think about this, but at times I've
thought that life could just get so bad that one day it might not matter
what I was afraid of. Maybe I deserved fear and death and hell.
Ok, I'll stop, since these thoughts aren't currently mine and I don't
wanta get morbid. My point is that maybe, for whatever reason, Kurt got
this way about life. No matter what anyone says, its tragic.

re:#81- Hm, came to a similar but slightly different resolution on that issue:
When I was young and seriously depressed, I considered suicide but couldn't
think of a suitable method. Eventually, I decided that it wasn't really a
viable way out, since it probably wouldn't be much of a rest and would just
send me back to do it all over, with the additional baggage of having "wimped
out" or "failed" once again. Therefore, one of my major goals for this life
is to stick it out and unlearn the habit of giving up. Really. No shit. I
hope Kurt gets what he needs from death- rest, a lesson, or a good afterlife.

(oh, stop it with the against-suicide lyrics...)

"We're too high, suicide is the only way out.
don't you know what it's really about?"

re 70: What's wrong with having sex with sailors? Also, I think the only sad
thing about suicide is what it does to the family members and loved ones
that get left behind. That and the fact the person comitting suicide will
most probably end up in hell.

People who commit suicide didn't deserve to live in the first place.
I cannot take pity on the victim of suicide. They deserve to be dead,
and they are. Though, there are some weird US laws. Seems that if you're
under 18, you're too young (legally) to die. Strange, ain't it?

Whenever I think I want to commit suicide,
I just go to sleep and see if things are
better when I wake up.

response 88 of 134: Mark Unseen   Apr 15 11:41 UTC 1994

A general question: I had a guy who really didn't believe that
I had never even thought of committing suicide. I've just never
seen the point, 'cause I pretty much believe that when you die,
you're all done. ...no heaven or hell, anyway. I might be convinced
about reincarnation. Anyway, do a lot of people actually consider
killing themselves? (Re: #87 from vishnu... i.e. were you serious?)

I'm not sure of the stats on suicide, but I know that 25% of all women
and 12% of all men go through a major depression at some point in
their lives. Belief in life after death need not be a determining
factor in considering suicide; I think that most of the people who
commit suicide do it because life is painful, and they want the pain
to end.

"Life is pain, your highness, anyone who says differently is selling
something."

True, life is painful, but suicide isn't the answer.

Looks like all the stages of grief are well represented (especially anger).
I'd like to fill in the gap with a stage that's missing, "Kurt's not dead.
He's alive! It's just a big rumor."

Don't worry, I've already heard tell of Kurt sightings in the

OK. I can understand the need to "end the pain", because I
believe in "death with dignity", if you're old or terminally
ill...I just think there's something selfish about a 27 (28...whatever)
year old millionaire killing himself. It was all in front of him.
Chickenshit.

response 98 of 134: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 11:57 UTC 1994

Peg, lemme tell ya from experience, people who are about to
commit suicide are usually not thinking too clearly. I
doubt his career options made much difference to him. I
doubt his daughters made much difference either, if anything
he probably thought she'd be better off without him.

(Note, I don't know any of this as fact, this is my conjecture.)
aruba
response 99 of 134: Mark Unseen   Apr 16 13:42 UTC 1994

Yeah, I agree, robh. Peg's right that it is a selfish act, no question.
And a sad one, because there almost surely was a way for him to ease
whatever pain he was in without dying. But it can be really really hard
to see that when you're severely depressed. That's one of the things
medication can do; it can't make depression go away, but it can help you
to see through the fog that depression creates in your head.
