That sounds fine to me, although I think there are enough people who should
be there who have cat allergies that it would probably make sense to find a
cat free place.

I can hold my breath for a few hours, just don't expect me
to be too talkative. >8)

Dear John - #73. Yes, it was, and intended as such. Dave - Sunday afternoons
are ok.

I'm allergic to cats but can take anti-cat drugs to hold out through a
meeting. Most Sundays in the near future are free.

Hm... that was interesting. Let's see if it happens again:

I'm giving all my money to Valerie Mates.

It appears that several are already abusing those "anti-cat" drugs. If
the attendees are going to be in "la la" land, just because of cats,
perhaps another location would be better?

Oh yeah, that meeting. Anti-cat drugs will be fine. Dave, any plans for what
day to hold this?

And, it does appear they need help in expending their funds for a proper
purpose. Or maybe not, but we could suggest something anyway?

I don't believe any grex staff person would actually *resign* if grex
and arbornet were to either merge, or combine some operations (even if
it's only to share a room). I do believe most if not all of the grex
staff believe that it would not be in Grex's best interest to pursue
such a relationship. The win grant proposal process is perhaps the most
recent incident that I think illustrates why such a relationship might
not be a good idea. That doesn't mean such a relationship between grex
and another cooperating organization wouldn't work. For instance,
co-locating grex with HVCN *could* be a very winning combination. In
any relationship like this, it's all a question of chemistry & trust;
and if you got them, even unlikely combinations like a church/synagogue
are possible; if you haven't, well, uh, just how many kinds of lutherans
are there now?

I think you are correct, mdw. Arbornet seems to be in some process of
winding-down, slowly, painfully, but surely. Entropy. There are more
kinds of Lutherans that you care to know. It is a function of pedantic
pressure from above on determined individuals below - who question and
refuse to accept dogma without the right to question. Of course, it does
get some of them in trouble when looking at other systems. Looking back,
the brilliance of Grex is that it ("It" - whatever that is) never really
felt threatened by HVCN. It did take trust and chemistry. It should be
clear by now that HVCN wants both HVCN and Grex to prosper.

Wanting HVCN, M-net, and Grex to all thrive and coexist with
mutual goodwill and respect doesn't mean it's still not a good
idea that all remain autonomous from each other.

Right now there are two quite different systems in Ann Arbor. If they merged
there would be only one. That would not be progress. Giving reasons not to
merge is almost pointless. I'm hard-pressed to think of any reasons *to*
merge. Why does this issue keep coming up? NOBODY wants us to merge.
