Well, as I'm sure several of you have seen in agora, the idea has come up
for a new conferance about Health and Fitness. If at all possible, I would
like to start/head one up. I have several ideas starting to form as to what
might be included, but most of them I'm not really sure how to phrase at
the moment....:)

Re the "Networks" cf (I had to dig back to Resp. 60 to catch the
start of the thread): have they been asked inthe mailinglist? I
didn't see that being mentioned. If they haven't been, I'd suggest
that this be posted (which mailinglist is it - comnet-something-or-other?)
to that list, requesting responses to you (Valerie) - of course, with
some explanation of the format. I think it would be very interesting
and here is a good place, since there is no impediment to joining in.

Re: #74 - I'm interested, hopefully with another person as a co-fairwitness.
But first, I would like a little better idea of what that would entail.
I have not been successful in accessing what I thought were some materials
here that would help. I'll try again and get your help if need be. I guess
I could learn. Thanks for asking. Will look good on my resume'. ;-) Perhaps
you have a co-fw in mind?

Rane slipped in with a good question. Yes, I proposed this to the comnet
group. They need leadership, I guess since the responses have been rather
light in number and content -- ie zero. However, they are capable of being
led. It is worth the investment of time, if Grex can spare the space.

Then let's build it, and maybe they will come.

Definitely. Let's create the conference and try to promote it.

I could go for a health conf., I was even looking for one the other day.

There are some existing health/fitness items scattered about that could be
linked in, and probably some questions people have if the forum existed. I
could co-FW it if eeyore doesn't want to handle it all herself.

I'd definitely join a health/fitness conference if it were
available.

I'd participate...and might consider co-fairwitnessing as well.

response 84 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 2 22:05 UTC 1995

i would like to link any old items, that might apply....i just don't know
where they are...:)

also, another fw would be nice....:) (bat, bat)

I volunteer to co-fw the proposed health and fitness conf.

Hm. I would have said I thought we already had a health conference, with
denise as the fair witness. Someone might send mail to denise to ask.
I did some quick poking around and didn't find such a conference.

Cfadm -- please do go ahead and create the commnets conference? Thanks!
eeyore
response 87 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 4 06:38 UTC 1995

denise made a comment in agora that she was interested in participating,
and if we would let her know when it went up....ti think that means no...:)

I'm not sure whether I said this already or not, but I'm interested too.
Let's do it.

OK! It's gonna be created (the new health conference, that is) as soon as
some minor formalities are out of the way...

1. Who are the fairwitnesses
2. What exactly should it be called, and what should the description in "help
conf" be?
3. Any cool ASCII art planned for the header?

I guess eeyore gets to decide these, since she suggested it. We'll be taking
this to mail pretty soon also (mail cfadm instead of me, however)

re#89:
1- a caduceus (winged staff of Hermes or Mercury, the messenger
of the gods: used as a medical symbol...the official
symbol of the medical profession is the staff of
Aesculapius <sp?>) would be appropo, but I'm not sure if
you could do it in ASCII.

[actually, that was referring to Q #3 posed in 89]

Hey, what's the procedure for the commnets conference? It's been discussed
here for long enough that it's ready to be created. I'm a backup cfadm, so
I could go create it myself. Should I?

Why not?

response 93 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 5 19:09 UTC 1995

I'm no sure if this is a good idea or not, but I'd kind of like a conference
where Grex software technical stuff can be discussed. Currently the more
security-related parts of this are discussed in the staff conference, and
the more policy-related parts are here in coop. But it isn't really
appropriate to get into nitty-gritty technical details and obscure pros and
cons of alternative solutions here.

You could call it "garage" after the haven of all tinkerers.

re:89

1: i geuss the fair witnesses would be myself, and if scott is still interested
i would be more then willing to have his help. :)
2:it would probably just eb called the Health and Fitness cf...the descp.
        would be about the same....
3: not at the moment...i don't want to add in the medical sign because
        of legalities....
rickyb
response 95 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 5 19:53 UTC 1995

eeyore, you should consider a disclaimer in the header that none of the info
is to be taken as professional advice, and consultation with personal
physician/fitness trainer should be sought before trying anything discussed
in the conference.

response 96 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 5 19:59 UTC 1995

there is also the idea of trying to make it into ascii art....why not just
a simple treadmill? :)

Re: 91

I don't think anybody mailed cfadm... :)

I've accepted eeyore's offer to co-fw the Health and Fitness conf, and here
are some basic ideas:

"Health and Fitness Conference"
help conf text: "Health and Fitness!"
join aliases: "health" and "fitness"
conf system name: "health"

Art: probably something the attending cfadm (probably me) slaps together at
the last minute. :)

If no objections, I'll put it in RSN.

Re 97: Traditionally one sends mail to cfadm only if cfadm has failed to
respond to a conference proposal that was made in the co-op conference.
However, if the current cfadms would prefer to have mail to start the
conference-creation process, that's fine with me.
