John, want to talk to Jon Zeeff and see what remps costs? That
would be the way to have a cross conference with M-Net.

STeve - "remps" - please?
steve
response 77 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 26 02:04 UTC 1995

Sorry--remps is a software package that takes items and responses
from one conference on machine A, and mails them to machine B, where
they are added to the paralell conference there. Its a way for
conferences to share data.

YAPP has shared e-mail conferences built in. Here we go again...
why not just install a separate YAPP directory structure, and
import/export the WIN conference with that?

From the wording of #72, I gather that Valerie is speaking on behalf
of WIN. There's also a proposal on M-Net for a WIN conference, entered
in the general conference there by Dave Cahill. It's not clear from
either the wording of the proposal or the subsequent discussion whether
that proposal originated with WIN or is an independent proposal from
Dave. I've raised that question in the discussion item but so far have
not gotten an answer. Folks might want to check it out. I don't
remember the item number, but it should be easy to find by scanning the
item headers.

The idea of creating a conference somewhere was discussed at the
last WIN meeting (both Dave and Valerie were there), and it was felt
that if it could be created and linked on M-Net and Grex (or other
places), so much the better. A linked conference would get more
participation from people who frequent only one system.

Where are those board minutes, anyway? That meeting was last night,
after all!

I'm proposing an Amiga conference with lkt as fw. (He's too shy to ask
for himself.) I'll co-fw and show him the ropes.

Re the WIN conference proposal -- would it make sense to go ahead and
set it up now, and worry later about how to make it shared with whoever?
Also, who would fw?

John,

Good idea - there are some issues to be flogged asap. What are all
these {{{{{ doing? There they go again! {{{{!
ajax
response 86 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 00:35 UTC 1995

The {{{{'s are line noise. You saw them only on your end, so
they weren't included in your response (except the ones you typed).
{'s and ~'s are my most common line noise characters. Usually,
if you have an MNP error correcting modem (almost all 9600 or faster
modems are), and you dial one of Grex's new modems (you can dial
them at the middle of the trunk hunt at 761-4931 or 761-5041),
then you won't see the line noise characters; the modems filter
them out.

I'm not sure about a new WIN cf.. Keeping up with the number of
cf's I do already is difficult enough- as this has much to do with how
grex is run, isn't coop ideal for these discussions? I'm not
much for having to jump around to keep up with policy.

WIN is separate from Grex, and as such, should have itw own conference.
steve
response 89 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 01:34 UTC 1995

Yes, it definately needs its own conference. I could see items
linked between coop and win, but they are seperate.
sidhe
response 90 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 02:53 UTC 1995

Well, could they all be linked, then?
steve
response 91 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 03:31 UTC 1995

No, why should they? Something specific to WIN, like modem selection
wouldn't be pertinant to coop. Something like a policy item might well
be something that should be shared.

response 92 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 04:36 UTC 1995

I could volunteer to f-w the WIN conference if nobody else wants to.

 I agree with STeve. Everything that is appropriate should be linked;
but the conference should stand on it's own merits.

The fantasy .cf would be FWed by me and anne, can someone give me some input?

response 94 of 361: Mark Unseen   Apr 30 19:09 UTC 1995

Re WIN cf: Valerie proposed it, so let's see if she has anything to
say about fw'ing. It might make sense to have an fw who is actively
involved in WIN.

Re the fantasy cf: If nobody has anything to say after about 5 days
from the time you proposed it, it'll be created.

Re fantasy conf: Rather than create a new conf, would a combo sci-fi/fantasy
conf be acceptable? Just a thought, not necessarily opposed to the ideas...
(er, idea)

(I've notified the scifi conference fw's by mail of this discussion, in
case they want any input into it.)

response 97 of 361: Mark Unseen   May 1 13:00 UTC 1995

Well, I've got no problem with fantasy being discussed in
the SciFi conference, but if others want a seperate
conference, that's fine too. I expect we may end up
linking several items between us, in that case.

I've glanced at the SciFi conference and decided it was really dedicated to
Books (sci fi books).

Funny, I've seen a lot more discussion on TV and movies in
the sf conference than books...
