Re 68: "finger ascher" took a while to run, but it brought up info about
Ken for me. You wouldn't want to put in a "-m" in that command, though,
or it wouldn't work.

That's funny. This time it worked. I did not use the -m previously.
What's -m for, anyway? (If seen finger -m recommended, but I usually
forget...why would it not work in this case?)

Finger -m looks for only the login, and not any part of their name.

You said you could bring food. How about being the bringer of warm
beverages and some amount of early morning munchies, at about 8am that day?

Re "finger -m": If you leave out the -m, finger tries to match all the
names in the password file, and it could take all day. If you use -m,
that speeds things up by only displaying the finger information for the
one person whose login ID matches the login ID you specify.
(Which is basically what scg said.)

re #78,79: eeyore, if you need help, I bet something could be arranged.

I recall the recommendation to use finger -m because it was faster, but
somehow I never say (or it was never said?) that that only searched
logins. I'm glad to have the option (I also mostly use finger to *find*
logins, so would seldom use the -m).

carson....wanna help with food? (meg grins evially...:)

i can do that. what kind of early morning munchies do you want? do you
want mcdonalds, do you want douhgnouts, cookies and mountain dew, what?

*Warm* liquid is likely to be really good at that hour. Maybe cocoa
or hot cider or something? Doughnuts or cookies, too, would work.

Rane - It's faster to do a "grep -i name /etc/passwd" rather than using
finger to look up people's login IDs. (The -i tells grep to be case
Insensitive. Replace the word "name" with the name, or fragment of a
name, of the person you want to look up.)

Everything!!

Hey folks, we still need more loans of skunky blankets. Right now
we've only got 3, and two aren't really skunky enough for the worst
chores. Anybody have a skunky picnic blanket they could loan Grex?

Sleeping bags could work, too, for some the things we need them
for. Once in the van, the bags could be put around things.

We have one (former bedspread, actually) we could lend. It's decrepit enough
that I hesitate to offer it, but since you're desperate ...

Dave -- decrepit is much better than non-decrepit. If you could drop
it by, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!

I still don't know where to meet everyone with the mid-afternoon
libation. Where will everyone be? (I don't even know where
the *old* dungeon was!)

Sorry, Valerie, we just moved back from overseas and didn't
bother to store all of that old stuff (blankets, towels, etc.)
while we were gone! Otherwise, I'd offer some!
