Grex no tiene POP.

Hola, Toni!

Es verdad. No tenemos POP3 aqui.

Escriba tu nueva e-mail direccion,
y entonces ^X para salir.

Hola Steve!

Muchas gracias por la informacion. Ahora mismos voy a probarlo. :-)

Hola! freida no espan~ol. I would really like to learn spanish, and in
reading through this, I recognize a lot of words. My son-in-law is from
Argentina and I will be visiting my friend Florence in Madrid within the next
year. Anyone want to teach me? Or at least help me?

You need a textbook, freida. There's a lot to learn. A conferencing system
is a good medium to practice on, and get corrections and help. If you want
to go beyond reading, to speaking and understanding, even a conferencing
system is not going to be of any use. It's a daunting proposition.

Donde vives, Freida- where do you live? If you're in AA, I'd be glad to
get together with you to work on it. I've got some old text books and stuff.

Freida no esta' en Ann Arbor. Ella viva en WV. Tal vez vamos a visitarla
este verano, para Grexstock '96. Entonces, esos libres podrian ir, tambien.
(tr)
Freida is not in Ann Arbor. She lives in WV. Perhaps we will visit her
this summer for Grexstock '96. Then, those books could go, too.

Thanks kami, for the offer. It is as steve says...maybe you could come and
visit too? Grexstock is open to all!

Que' lastima que no estas aqui, Frieda. What a pity you aren't here, Frieda.
Nunca habia en WV. I've never been in WV. Pero me gusta mucho las
montan~as. But I like the mountains a lot. Cuando sera' Grexstock? When
will be Grexstock? Me gustaria [send] mis libros con SRW, si' necesitas.
I'd be glad to send my books with SRW, if you need them. Porque va
Grexstock a ser en WV, o donde? Why will Grexstock be in WV, or where?

I have purchased a workbook, but it is hidden in one of the many boxes I have
yet to unpack...and it was for tourists. Grexstock will be in WV around the
22nd of June and will be on my property...mostly because I would really like
everyone to come here and I asked if they would. I have 64+ acres. I could
really use the books if you wouldn't mind. I promise to take good care of
them and to return them. Sure hope you can come...there are mountains here,
though not like those out west. I actually like these better since they are
mostly covered with hardwoods and rolling. I live on the side of a mountain
called Freezeland. Mucho gracias.

Me gusta mucho los mantan~as, y sona muy amable alli, pero creo que vamos
a viajar al Nordeste en el mes de Mayo y a un festival en el Oeste de
Nueva York in Julio, asi debemos quedar a casa en Junio. Pero los libros
pueden ir...
that is;
I like the mountains a lot, and it sounds very pleasant there, but I think
we are going to travel to the Northeast in May and to a festival in Western
NY in July, so we ought to stay home in June. But the books can go...

Buena suerte con sus estudios. Good luck with your studies.

Thanks, kami...maybe you can come in the fall...it is very beautiful here
then. Are the books self explanatory?
kami
response 90 of 175: Mark Unseen   Feb 6 20:13 UTC 1996

Creo que si. I think so. But I'm very used to the structure of language-
learning as it's offered in the US, for good or bad. Actually, it drives
me nuts that my Irish teacher is not primarily a language teacher; he does
it for the pleasure of the language but his career is as a professor of
pathology. This means that he doesn't give enough correlary material to
the books, he tends to just go straight though them rather than choosing
stuff that works well together, and he doesn't give extra exercizes to help
us figure out where we are. It's kind of funny, since some of us have more
experience and end up "driving" the class.

Could someone post the words to the song I can only identify as the
"Hey Macalena" song? You know, the one used in the group "dance" (performed
mainly by women) where on each beat the hands/arms are moved to a different
position. And an english translation for us espanol-challenged inglesers
would also be nice... :-)
srw
response 94 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 21 07:20 UTC 1996

I don't know that song, but I'll try translating it if you have the Spanish.

response 95 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 21 13:44 UTC 1996

I'm sure you'd recognize the melody if you heard it. :-)
While we're at it, could somebody post the words/translation for "La Bamba"?
asp
response 96 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 22 00:51 UTC 1996

It's "Macarena" performed by "los del mar" (I've also seen a version by "los
del rio"), there is an English version out there... sorry I 'don't have the
lyrics...

I have "la Bamba" somewhere (you mean the Ritchie Valens verion, right? Not
the traditional version), but I can't promise that I'll find it any time soon

It goes a little something like this:

Para bailar la bamba

para bailar la bamba te necesito una poco de gracia

una poca de gracia, mi ????....

well, that's all I can think of off the top of my head...
srw
response 97 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 22 05:39 UTC 1996

In order to dance "La Bamba" you need a little style.
asp
response 98 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 22 21:27 UTC 1996

I would say "grace" because it is referring to a dance in which you have to
tie a bow with your feet
srw
response 99 of 175: Mark Unseen   May 23 04:26 UTC 1996

Grace works too, I guess. I thought of that word first because it is the
cognate, but gracia can translate to a number of words. Some how I didn't like
the sound of "you need a little grace" in English. It seemed a bit awkward.
It's a valid translation, though.

I didn't know about tieing a bow with your feet. I was just translating what
was in front of me. I have never seen "la bamba" danced. Cool.
