I just read about the army dropping old tanks into the ocean
to help create coral reefs...that may be no bad idea!

I seem to recall an update in another item, but any more news on
this? Did we pay Arbornet the $50, or return the UPS? If the
donors still want the money to go toward a UPS, perhaps the $250
(or remaining $200) should be noted on financial statements, until
such time as it's spent on one? I don't remember if a UPS was
nominated for the budget planning meeting.

Grex's board decided they didn't want the UPS.
I bought the UPS from Arbornet.

It wasn't nominated, although I would term that an oversight on our part.

Well, my hundred is for a UPS, so I'd like it to stay there, for one.

Wonderful, and thanks, Selena. The good news is that newer units
really are cheaper than the things of old. At some point after some
of the other things are done, we should investigate what it would
cost for one of these, new. That $100 will go nicely towards that.

Well, good! Does that mean you might be able to get a better one, for
less?

Not for less money than $250, but definately a much better unit
for perhaps $500 - $600. As with many other technologies, the newer
UPS's are considerably better in terms of power consumption than the
earlier generation. This will mean that when we take another look
at things, we're quite likely to find a unit that could keep Grex
alive for long enough to let it shut down gracefully for probably
less than $300, and one to be able to keep Grex alive for a longer
period in the $600 range. If we're willing to get something whose
purpose is to let Grex shut down gracefully, it will be cheaper.

Alright! Hmmm.. if I have more to spare, I might send it in toward
a bigger unit.. I'll have to check the books..

Selena, your generosity is very much appreciated, whether you can add to
it or not. Thanks!

<Shrug> Hey, if you guys were a pay-only service, do you have any
idea how much you'd have from me by now?
scg
response 87 of 94: Mark Unseen   Oct 15 05:23 UTC 1995

(most pay only services I've dealt with have wanted to know who to send the
bill to, in other words either a name and address, or a credit card number)

Steve, I wasn't bringing that up, and thanks for the salt in the
wound, hm?

I'm sorry. I think I misunderstood your comment. It could have been taken
a couple of ways, and I think I took it the wrong way.
