        Dreadlocked cats?

        Dreadlocked fu<bleep>ng cats?

A 'lion cut" shaves the entire body, minus the face, ruff around the
nack the paws and the tail, or maybe the tip of the tail. That's not
100% accurate, but in the end, the cat is supposed to look like a
little lion.

C'mon, Jazz . . . doesn't "dreadlocked" sound a little better than "fur-
matted?"

I think that if someone got "hired on the spot" then that means they
saw something in that person that made them think he or she was a
uncommonly good fit for the job, so much so that they weren't likely to
find any superior ones. That tends to argue against the vital
attribute being race, gender or age. There are lots and lots of people
of any particular race, gender and age. Not a strong argument, but one
that increases my level of scepticism.

A slightly less frilly version of the usual poodle haircut is also called a
"lion cut." I don't know how similar it is to the feline version.

re #699- pretty much what bhelliom said- everything shaved save for the
head/neck, feet and tip of the tail (which is apparently a pain to try
to shave). I think the cut for poodles is a little different, but I
could be wrong.

The lion cut is a needed thing if a cat gets too matted (my cat is long-
haired and DETESTS getting anything but her neck combed so mats aren't
uncommon), or like the people my sister knows who have it done on their
cat due to their allergies (this way they can keep the cat :) ) and
apparently their cat now loves being shaved.

I would consider it for my little Smudge, She looks like a little, shaggy
tiger now, but she is so cute the way she is. All three of my longhairs love
being brushed. Smudge just attacked me when I stopped to type this.

IBB when I took Smudge and Quisitis in Friday to get spayed they discovered
that Quisi had such a bad uterine infection that she was close to death. She
showed no signs of it except that she started not liking being picked up or
held. We thought that it was because of changes due to growing up. After
the surgery she can't seem to get enough cuddling from either us or the other
kitties.

Little Richard was supposed to go in with Smudge but it looked like she was
pregnant and went in labor Tuesday night. Wednesday after I go home from work
there were still no kittens so I took her to the vet. There were kittens,
but she had delivered them sometime between last Saturday and Monday (Jun
1-3). They must have been stillborn because she shows no evidence of ever
nursing. We hope that she took care of them nature's way and we don't come
across any little bodies when we start going through boxes.

If Little Richard had gone in rather than Quisi, we would have lost Quisi.
Scary to think about.

(Little Richard got her name when she was just about 2 wks old, by the time
we realized that he was a she she was answering to her name. We kept it
because we didn't want to confuse her.)

i've already cut chunks of knot out of her, but i'd like to avoid the lion
cut (although she may like it for summer). she's so cute all shaggy and in
2 months she'll be flying to NL and needs to look unsketchy for the
immigration officers so they don;t single her out for random searches. (she's
gonna have some catnip tucked up her bum)

i'm gonna try some edward scissorhands style stealth cutting action.

bhell, it was I who typed that response asking bru whether the fact that
he didnt get hired, while the other guy who applied at the exact same time
did, was because of discrimination. It WAS a question. It was not, and
couldnt possibly have been, a statement claiming to know anything as a
fact one way or another. I simply asked him if there were superficial
differences between himself and the other candidate, and if there were,
did he think he was discriminated on the basis of any of those.

It was not an irresponsible question. Discrimination is wrong, and do
you want to know why it can and does still happen even in this day and
age? Because people are too polite to talk about it or acknowledge it
when it happens. I even got jumped on for just bringing it up as a
question for Bru to consider. I think anybody who thinks that most good
jobs are filled purely on the basis of having the right qualifications and
skills is naive. Its not just what you know, but often (very often) who
you know, and who you are.

Its not wrong to talk about these things. Its not wrong to think about
these things.

A lazy ride, slow cadence in a near-top gear (uphill, top gear a lot
of the way downhill) and I'm only a lousy 8.8% slower than my best
effort over the same route? (I suppose I shouldn't complain, I still
averaged almost 14 MPH, but geez all that work yields so little!)

I spent my weekend without my computer.. (my family decided to take it in to
sunset, have some things replaced that didn't need it, against my advice)
And spend Friday in the Hospital Getting stitches in my face. to the tune of
15 total, with 3 within the wound since it went pretty deep. I squeaked by
without a blackeye.. but I've got an interview with UofM on Thursday.
Grumble..

IBB that the piece of land I saw Saturday was A) sold by the time and I got
in touch with the real estate agent and B) way out of my price range
($960,000).

I knew I was dreaming to think I could get 60 acres in the Ann Arbor school
district, but still, waking up is . . . irritating.

Richard . . .

1. I can read. I'm well aware that it was you that brought up the
subject. Don't insult my intelligence.

2. Discrimination is wrong. Do you think you need to tell this to a
multiracial female, who primarily identifies as black? If you do, then
you're not as smart as I thought you were. And don't give me
that "Reverse Discrimination" crap. At least you're not silly enough
to think that discrimination against someone identifying as caucasian
or male is somehow more aggregious than discrimination against others.

3. My disagreement was mainly with RCurl, who was putting words in my
mouth in my opinion. You were secondary.

4. Not irresponsible? Bringing up the subject is not irresponsible.
You're horrible at debate, Richard. I never said that discussing the
subject was irresponsible. The MANNER in which you brought it up,
jumping to that as the first conclusion you came up with, or voiced,
seemed irresponsible to ME. It may have in your mind been a question,
it may have seemed a question to some, but not to me and some others
that read it. Even questions can be statements. Everything is
relative, Richard.

5. Naive? Yes, I agree that anyone who believes that jobs are gotten
based upon skill and skill alone aren't with it. Have I ever expressed
this sentiment?

Get off your moral high horse, Richard. You're preaching to the choir
here.

And this is the *last* time I will respond to this in this item. This
is not what it is for. If you want to quibble over this issue,
Richard, take it to another item.

Grimaldi, I hope you cat gets better soon!!!

<snorts> and you don't? Give it up Rane.

I'm not "offended" by anything. I simply said I thought it was
irresponsible. What I've since gotten offended by was being dressed
down and spoken to as if I were an idiot. So if my last post drips
with offence, that is why.
