I thought m-net was running as a VM in tonster's farm.

Sorry guys, didn't realize this item was here. We're unsure of m-net's
current status right now. We were attempting to do some upgrades of the
OS when we rebooted m-net. The first time it rebooted, it took a very
long time to come back, but eventually it did. We saw some HDD errors
at that point on one of the drives in the mirror. It was rebooted again
some time later, and it's been down since. I'm working on getting it
from the colo it's housed in in Southfield, but I got busy last week and
was unable to make it. I'm waiting to hear back on when someone can
meet me at the DC to pick it up, hopefully this weekend. Once I've got
it, I'll spin it up and see if anything is left.

I should know more in a couple days.

I appreciate the update, Tony. I hadn't heard anything until yesterday,
when I remembered this conference, and had wondered if we'd seen the last
of M-Net.

re resp:6: You've spoken of The Void recently, and now of the lesser
sports. How heartwarming!

Are there any new updates?

I'm really missing the sports conference...

Been having trouble getting in contact with the colo provider. I've got
an appointment to pick up m-net tonight. Hopefully I'll have some info
this evening.

I picked up M-Net tonight. I'm working on it now. It's
behaving...oddly, but all in all I think everything is intact.
Hopefully I'll have it booted to something that can actually read the
drives soon so I can at least make a copy of the data.

Behaving oddly? What was it doing, Tony?

response 15 of 33: Mark Unseen   Nov 10 03:53 UTC 2011

I think the drives might be failing or possibly the bus has just always
been this slow. Even the BIOS seems slow. Anyway, I've managed to fix
what was broken and it's almost ready to come up. I'll probably bring
it back online from my house tomorrow sometime. Need to change it's IP
for now.

apparently it rebooted and I accidentally left a cd in the drive..

Ah, okay. Thanks for the explanation!

response 23 of 33: Mark Unseen   Nov 22 16:40 UTC 2011

was the reboot due to hardware or is the new build unstable?
tonster
response 24 of 33: Mark Unseen   Nov 23 03:09 UTC 2011

Well, the reboot was either cross doing upgrades, or my 2 year old
daughter pulling out the plug... :/

Recompiling an entire system can really give an older computer
a workout, too, especially if you throw in an extended session
of application upgrades. Might cause something to fail, like
a hard drive.

resp:24 I don't think it was me that time.... I was kind of surprised to
try and login and see it down.

resp:26: It probably wasn't then. Sorry, I've been dealing with a wife
in the hospital all week, so I haven't had a lot of time to protect
m-net from the 2 year old. She turned off the UPS it was attached to
this morning, bringing it down again. :( I'll get it moved to the
basement this weekend where she can't reach it. :)

Gosh, Tony. Heck with M-Net. I hope your wife is doing all right.
tonster
response 29 of 33: Mark Unseen   Nov 25 01:57 UTC 2011

Sorry, guess my daughter got to the UPS at some point today while I was
at the hospital. :( I'm booting it up (again) now.

As for Brooke, she's doing better. She should be out tomorrow morning.
As a word of caution: avoid kidney infections. They suck.
