Well.. It just doesn't want to boot.. Gonna open it up tomorrow clean out any
dust etc with the tools I do have lying around from when I built my own comp
a few years ago.. to prevent having to take it anywhere..Maybe give it a
checkup when I'm feeling better after surgery

How far does it get after you turn it on? Is the problem worse on warm days?

IBB I overslept _again_ and missed a session I was supposed to be running in
the lab I'm helping out in. Given how flaky I've already been, the professor
has been about as understanding as possible, but no more so. I'm not really
on his Good People list right now, I don't think.
And I've got a phone call scheduled with the Ex-Undatable One tonight. Wish
me luck.

Dave and I had the final blowout last night. Take my advice: If you ever
want to date someone you've been best friends with for five years, DON'T.
You will never ever ever ever recapture the friendship if things end. I've
never been so miserable.

The only exception I'd make in that case is if you're both friends who
have a clear interest in one another, but have never both been single and are
too obstinant or honorable to date while involved.

I am bummed because an ex-coworker and I applied for the same position at
Comcast. He got hired on the spot, they told me they would let me know in
7 to ten days. Damn.

The test for a cracked tooth is that it aches but nothing shows up on the xray
and it hurts not when you clamp down on something but when you let up (or when
you drink anything or breathe on that side of your mouth). The dentist
thought this was really interesting. I wish it had happened two weeks ago
during my biannual checkup so as to save $70, and that it was not a 3 week
wait for the first appointment for the crown and I did not have to avoid
chewing on that side for two months. Or breathing. Or drinking.

bru, was this co-worker who got hired on the spot by any chance younger
than you, or of a different sex or minority? unless he was overwhelmingly
more qualified than you, it could be you were discriminated against

And Comcast *desperately* needs some Mac people. They've been saying "We only
do Windows" for too long.

Sprayed tamari sauce doesn't help chili powder stick to popcorn very
well; you still get it all over your bowl, your shirt...
Ah, well, maybe a strong infusion of cumin in olive oil will work
(filtered to go through the sprayer). That's something to try someday.

Re #662: Richard, there's always been a debate around Grex about whether you
are malicious or just clueless. It's responses like #662 that convinced me
a while ago that you are actually actively malicious.
Take that as feedback, in case I'm wrong. If you ever want to convince
people that you *don't* do your best to stir up trouble, you should cut out
things like #662.

I read 662 as non-malicious and possibly an attempt to be helpful. I have
never noticed Richard making any remarks intended to offend, he just seems
to like to consider all the possibilities no matter how remote.

I didn't read #662 as malicious, either. I think Richard gets an idea
and as soon as he gets it, he tosses it into an item without
considering it much. Sometimes it's a good suggestion, but much of the
time it appears thoughtless, especially when dealing with matters of
personal importance to somebody else.
I think Richard is probably a pretty nice guy, with good intentions;
just not very contemplative.

See, I think you two are wrong. I think Richard gets some ideas, filters
out the ones that won't create controversy, and enters the ones that will,
with accompanying insistence of innocence, as required.

I read nothing personal from #662: just an inquiry about a possibility.
What's controversial about a reasonable question?
I know nothing about the relative qualifications of the subject job
applicants, but most often it is a matter of particular expertise
and specific experience that selects one applicant over another.
