Happy belated birthday, fellow cat. :)
IHB- yesterday (after a rocky most of the day) ended well. Plus I got
to play with puppies (Loki-mon and Ginger) and see Spencer (an
absolutely adorable American Eskimo dog) who is such a sweetie. I think
Sasha needs a puppy... <grins> Though, I have to find a new place for
roomie and I since our current place only allows for one dog.

And I'm thinking that Loki needs someone to keep up with her. Another
Border Collie perhaps. There's a Border Collie rescue in Michigan that
could use some support. Of course, I've been wanting to get a Great
Pyrenees or Kuvaz (sp?) since I saw them up close. But then again,
I've been wanting a cat refcently, too. That's it, I guess I'm gonig
to have to look into renting a house.
RE# 595: Sarah, where's the interview? Good luck!

Re: #602- Yes, a house would be good... (cause you know you can't move
without me) <nods> We can be known as the Crazy Ladies with the
Pets. ;) (Cause we're up to what, like two-three cats and three-four
dogs? ;) )

IHB I decided to come home despite Northwest's bloody price hike. It's only
money...Also, had a *wonderful* evening last night involving a very nice
dinner, wonderful weather, and an SO taking a rare time-out from orals stress
to be super-attentive. He's *so* good at it when he tries. :)

Bronson is downtown.

We biked out to Zeeb road to some condos under construction and were allowed
(nobody seemed to care, or to speak much English) to take home about 100' in
very short pieces of metal sound channel scraps so we will not have to cut
up a bunch of 12' pieces. The drywall crew was busy eating their very nice
smelling Mexican meals (some large foil-wrapped packages) and were very quiet
and polite. The plastic siding people were smoking and had a large radio
blaring the most raucous music I have ever heard. The owner of the drywall
business sent us out there and told us to say hello to his son, but he was
nowhere to be found - everyone said to look in the next condo over. We then
went to the nearby Meijers to warm up and Jim said he felt like he was in a
movie about the future - constant beeping sounds, and brightly colored
objects, and people walking by talking to themselves. Stranger in a Strange
Land, he said. We bought a case of mangos and biked home again. They were
doing a Hawaiian theme to celebrate their first anniversary but the grey skies
did not quite complement their leis and grass skirts. Brrrr!

Evil?
I had a pleasant afternoon/evening driving up to Grand Rapids to visit my
maternal grandparents. My grandmother has late-stage cancer, and the current
chemo treatment she's suffering through (it's been hitting her a lot harder
than, say, my dad--think of how you usually picture people handling chemo)
will be her last. I haven't gotten a chance to see either of them much
lately, but it was very good to visit and catch up. You just can't appreciate
family enough.

IHB I had a nice evening with Dave and his friend, Angie. She's really cool,
but she's leaving (again) within the month. :( The lucky girl travels the
world during the summers and just completed her masters in Spanish.

IHB having nothing better to do on a Friday night, I went up to the
Bronx to watch Yankees vs. Twins at Yankee Stadium. It turned out to
be a heck of a game. Lead changed hands several times. Yanks went up
8-3, only to see the Twins rally for six runs in one inning to go up 9-
8. The Yanks tied it at 9-9 with a Bernie Williams homer in the bottom
of the ninth. Game went extra innings. As it got late, it got windy
and cold. In the eleventh inning it started to rain. By midnight, the
late hour and the cold/rain had caused most people to go home. An hour
later, in the top of the fourteenth inning, the Twins broke the game
open scoring three runs to go up 12-9. Everyone else in my section
left. I had an entire section of Yankee Stadium to myself. There were
only a few hundred hardy souls left in the place. The guys sitting
next to me thought I was crazy to stay, "its freezing, its one a.m.,
the game's over" But I hate to leave games before they end unless I
absolutely have to-- so I sat there. It started to pour really hard.
The umpires weren't going to call the game because if they had, the
inning wouldnt have counted, and the Twins three runs would have been
erased.
So we go to the bottom of the fourteenth inning, Twins 12-9. Shane
Spencer singles. Derek Jeter singles. Bernie Williams walks. Bases
loaded with one out. Jason Giambi comes up. He's booed because he got
thrown out at home plate a couple of innings earlier and fans thought
he should have beaten the throw. Giambi, in the pouring rain, hits a
towering grand slam home run deep into the bleachers. Yankees win 13-
12 om 14 innings. Its called an "ultimate grand slam", a grand slam
that occurs in the home team's final at bat, when they are down three,
and enables them to win by one. When I got home a while ago, I checked
the cnnsi web page, and it said Giambi's homer was only the
22nd "ultimate grand slam" in baseball history. You're more likely to
have seen a no-hitter. I guess I should feel bad for the guys in my
row who all left in the top of the fourteenth, and were probably in
tears when they got home and realized the Yankees won-- I mean the game
started at seven p.m. sharp and ended past one a.m. and you'd feel
cursed if you sat there for almost six hours and then left only to miss
one of the most dramatic conclusions imagineable-- but hey, I
warned'em....the opera aint over 'til the fat lady sings. Or in the
case of Yankee Stadium, the game ain't over 'til Sinatra sings!

Darren McCarty? Natural Hat Trick? who would have thunk it? But it's a
nice surprise, and I think it helps illustrate that Detroit has more
depth than the Evilanche.

We have collected most of the parts for my dirt bike - still need to pick out
the right kickstand and seat post (assuming we have some that will fit). And
I was just planning out what materials to get for a 2'x2'x9" bookshelf to
construct for my books so I can use the metal bookcase for the records (which
are too heavy for the milk crates) and on the way home, around the corner,
I found five boards the exact right size, four of which are not warped.
Green, my favorite color (under the dirt, anyway). And the neighbor nearby
offered me cuttings from her horseradish root and wants some from my
gooseberry. Curb-hunting is fun. Also found ANOTHER fruit tree sprayer.
Biked four hours to see the annual sustainable homes tour and discovered that
yes, you can make a nice floor out of concrete (a contractor can make an even
nicer one, got his name) and swirl some brown color through it to make it look
a whole lot like the $5/sq. ft. tiles we were considering. One of those weeks
when everything goes right but I sure am tired from all the biking for two
days.
