IBB it would cost as much to repair my piano as it would to buy a new one.
On the other hand, I may be able to learn how to do what needs to be done.

IBB the cheapest fairs I found online in 3 hours of searching to get me to
Rapid City South Dakota is 500 dollars for the roundtrip. I don't have that
kinda cash and my car will NOT be able to make the 1200 mile one way trip

Have you tried Expedia or Farewatcher? It's also much much much cheaper to
fly mid-week and book at least a month in advance. You probably already know
that, but I had to throw two pennies at you. :)
It's also cheaper to fly from a major city, since it tends to prevent
connections. Flying from Chicago or Detroit tends to be cheaper than flying
from K-Zoo, so maybe flying into a major city near Rapid City would be better?

Is there no bus to Rapid City? Greyhound used to have some very cheap round
trip fares if you could book about three weeks in advance. Do they have a
train station? The train is about the same price as the bus if you book about
three weeks in advance. About one week in advance the train is about double
the bus. Perhaps you could take the train as far as it goes, and then a bus,
since this sounds like a 24 hour trip and the former is more comfortable.

I checked www.greyhound.com for fares and schedules. Two buses a day, first
leaves Ann Arbor 8:05 am and arrives the next day 4:30 pm with four transfers.
The second leaves 11:30 and arrives the third day at 8:05 am. Both are $215
round trip, if you buy in advance (I filled in one month but they say 3 days
in advance is enough) and travel Mon-Thurs. You can bring a friend for free
(two tickets for the price of one). At the two for one price, this would be
cheaper than gasoline for a 40 mpg car. The train, if there is one, would
probably be a lot faster and a bit more expensive. Search on Amtrak's site.
The view from the train is much more interesting. You might get a few hours
to look around in Chicago.

The other thing: It's not always cheaper to fly from a major city. It's
usually much cheaper through Northwest if you fly from Toledo vs. Detroit.
We've seen as much as a 400$ difference in prices....and they fly you from
Toledo to Detroit to Destination....all for less money. I don't get it at
all, but hey, if it's much cheaper....

Hmmm. Have you looked into trains, buses, or renting cars?
Also...I dunno if they do this where you are, but at both MIT and NU there
are share-a-ride boards where you can advertise if you want to drive
somewhere and a. need a ride or b. want someone to share the driving.
(General comment: I would much rather pay a little extra to not have to
deal with a connecting flight. I've had horrible problems with getting
delayed and stuck places...although $400 is pretty extreme. There I might
be tempted. :))

I agree...if it had been $100, maybe, but for the Boston flight it was $200,
and somebody else found a $400 difference in a trip to DC

Changed my oil today, which went fine, but I noticed that the bottom radiator
mounting was mostly rusted away. The radiator was actually hanging down a
bit on one side! That's gonna need fixing...

Re# 545: If you need a shoulder to lean on, you're welcome to make an
appeal. Be my guest.
Maybe we should talk real life about this.
At least I can speak from experience, which might help in
understandignhow depsression works.
Not only that, I want to meet you again.

IBB a friend of mine told me she is pregnant. This is not good news...
she's still in grad school (hence, no money). The guy is an on/off
situation, and is out of the country right now. He won't be back until
Wednesday and she doesn't have a way to get in touch with him. She's
scared how he'll react. I feel so bad for her.
She hasn't decided what to do yet. She is cramping badly though, and
she fears (and sort of hopes too) that it's a miscarriage.
Is cramping in the first 4 weeks of pregnancy a definite sign of
miscarriage?

Bees - depends on the person. Sometimes they're simple cervical twinges. She
should see a doctor, regardless.

Not a fantastic way to start the week: My sister continues to be wiped out
by various post-surgery pain (currently she feels like she has a pair of
severe ear infections, which per the on-call physician is just "transfered
pain"), whilst my Dad has returned to the hospital in an Ambulance following
less than a day at home. My mum woke me up after about two hours of sleep
to ask me to call in to work so I could monitor Julia while she went to the
hospital. I'll be bringing some stuff over later in the day when she gets
her thoughts organized, but it's hard to think about much at 6am.
It's post-surgery complication, for the curious. His breathing has been
really labored, and he has grown increasingly disoriented with the fatigue,
probably because of Oxygen shortage. He's on a ventilator and has bee
admitted to the ICU. Alarming, but hopefully that's about all.
I'm going back to bed.

RE #561 <hugs> I certainly appreciate your willingness to be there in
that capacity. Someday I may take you up on it. Regardless of the
circumstances, it would certainly be great to have you here. By the
time you come back to the States, there may even be a guest room in it
for you. :)
Hang in there, Senna . . . I'll be thinking about you! <hugs>

Sorry about all that, Steve. I know the feeling (tonsillectomy
problems, anyway).
Friend has decided to abort. She has very mixed feelings about it of
course, but ultimately she's doing what she feels is best. I told her
I'd support her whatever her decision was, and I'm supporting her in
this.

Tough call, that. I'm in favor of choice, but I really don't like abortions
actually needing to be performed. :(
