Sounds okay if in the interest of getting more players; however restarting
the game frequently (to keep it under whatever length limitations exist
for the Intro cf) sometimes makes it harder for people to find the game.

Would the five letter game (easier for non-native speakers) be a better link?

How about giving a reference for "nihilo", Rane?

I haven't been playing the 5-letter word game - is it still active? If so,
maybe you're right, Catriona. I don't know if frequent restarts would be
necessary; frankly, I wasn't thinking that far ahead. I just thought it
sounded like something worth trying.

the five-letter game is still active, although it doesn't
seem quite as popular as the six-letter one.

what do you mean that copula is not what it sounds like?
What does it sound like?
and ai agree that hoopla looks pretty good.

Care to start a new item, Kent? :)

copula sounds like a biological term, though it is a grammatical term.

If we all agree it'll be worth it (I haven't noticed a big slowdown
yet due to too many responses in this item) I'll start a new item.
However, 1000 responses was usually the magic number (for those
just tuning in). I'll have a word next time I log in...let me know
if a newer, smaller item is needed.

response 563 of 594: Mark Unseen   May 4 04:58 UTC 1997

Well, a number of months ago I suggested linking this item to Intro to robh,
and he said it was too big. I suggested it because this was the item (well,
one of its former incantations, anyway) that hooked me on Grex, 3 years ago.
I think, therefore, that it's a great introduction to Grex, and I wish more
people could find it.

So, we can discuss this some more if you all like - I don't mean to railroad
anything, and I'm sorry restarting will mean breaking the 1000 response
convention. But if we wait till we hit 1000, it'll be quite a while, at the
rate we've been going.

Tell you what, Kent - why don't you put the next round in this item, and that
will give anyone who'd like to object to a restart/link time enough to do so.

Why can't we link this item from the start of just the next game? ["One

_copula_ is a grammatical term...it has something to do with the absence
of the word "be" in certain contexts. At least, that is how ai
have encountered it.
Now ai have no idea what the etymology of _cupola_ is. Alhtouhg
ai suspect it has something to do with bowl shapes.

re 563: I agree, this game is a nice intro to grex...and it
would be nice to have even passersby enter a guess now and then.
I'm not against breaking tradition, in fact the 1000 response
limit starts to get nasty quite a while before it nears
(depending on the load on grex at any given time, of course),
so maybe we should find out what robh and/or current intro fw
feel is a good cutoff point. 500 wouldn't be all that bad...
and most of our responses are tiny.
