Write it off as \n70's disco trash, but I don't think it's at all near the most \nembarassing moments of that decade.\n\nYes, I *hate* teen superstars that have songs written for them about \npain they have no knowledge about. LeAnn Rimes and Alanis Morrisette \nmust fade back into no-name nothingness, and perhaps die slow deaths. I \ndated someone who worshipped Alanis, and it drove me crazy.\n\nNew Kids? Yeah, they suck. But the Spice Girls aren't as bad as they \nwere. Seriously, I posted an item why preteens love 'em and we hate \n'em. We hate their unabashed pretensiousness and their saccharine pop \nstylings. We hate the fact that boys and girls love them when they have \nno idea what hoochy mamas they are and that they're singing about sex. \nI mean, 6-year old girls sing their songs and have no idea about the \nlyrics.\n\nI do not agree Pink Floyd sucks-- I rather like their music because it's \nmellow, and no, I don't toke. I also enjoy the legend of watching "The \nWizard of Oz" to the _Dark Side Of The Moon_ soundtrack. I'm also \nmanic-depressive, which may explain why I like Depeche Mode. So sue me!\n\nSpeaking of Pink Floyd, The Class of '99 sing 'Another Brick In The \nWall, Part II' like they're fried and smashed at the same time. Blech.\nIt also reminds me of some band unknown to me who brutually murdered \nThree Dog Night's "One" on the X-Files movie soundtrack. Help! Help! I \nlove Three Dog Night, and that was traumatizing.\n\n"Any Man of Mine." As I said, it should be more like "Any Slave Of \nMine." Blech, Shania Twain, nothing but shallow beauty in the music \nbiz. I can't stand country and all their new emphasis on \nultra-beautiful people and bubblegummy stuff. New country would largely \nbe pop if it wasn't for the singer using a twangy voice. Not that I \nlike traditional country much, either, but I could tolerate some of its \n80's crossover incantations. So stone me since I like Dolly Parton and \nKenny Rogers \(I'd call them more folk rock than I would country\).\n\nWhy the blast on Christian rock? Oh, sure, it seems sacreligious and \noxymoronic, but generally, these are people who enjoy various music \nstyles. Many of these musicians were into the drugs, sex, and moodiness \nrock sometimes glorifies. When they decided to change their beliefs, \nand subsequently their lifestyle, they wanted to do music that \ncelebrated their new-found happiness. Now I'll admit I don't really dig \npraise music, and some Christian rock really smacks of 'praise the Lord' \nand 'He saved me' lyrics, but I think they've got guts. I've especially \nadmired Christian bands and artists who have had hits on the mainstream \ncharts because religious references were subtle and more thoughtful than \nstraight-out praise. Jars Of Clay and d.c. talk have some notable \nsongs. Even the Christian 'metal' bands deserve some credit. I thought \nStryfer in the 80's was a real cool act \(although they'd be counted as \nglam, probably\).\n\nI think Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You" was sweet. So \nblast me as a hopeless romantic who enjoys sappy songs :P\n\nI hate Hootie and the Blowfish but I will make an exception for their \nsong "I Only Want To Be With You"\n\nBarbara Streisand post-1964? Agreed. Bob Dylan singing his own songs? \n Agreed. He's an incredible songwriter, but he can't carry a tune in a \nbucket for long, nor sing out of a paper bag.\n</PRE>\n)
