Sad that oval writes like beady, or that you only get one shot?

i would hope that my writing is at least a little more interesting than
beady's. although there _was_ that one time he was drunk and telling about
wanting whats-her-name's titties or something. i'm still deciding whether or
not i should be offended by #55 ;)

(actually we went by the euro-rules.)

        What's wrong with Beady's hard-boiled geek noir?
oval
response 66 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 13 21:16 UTC 2002

nuttin. i think all his threads should be collected and published.

dude
geek noir is like
"I saw this dame stroll into the main ops lab and i know she would be trouble.
her clothes screemed 173373 but i just knew she was that old kinda classy bird
that was just born to rend men's hearts.
she was dressed all in black, so i got up to ask her what was wrong.
she spun some drivel about how her server had been murdered, and could i
find the hacker that got him
i told her to go talk to the police, but she said it was an MS job.
whoa dollface" i said. "sorry sweat cheaks, but i don't care how fly you are
or how much cred you got, but i don't take cases involving two people:
redmond, or the mouse."
she cried.
long tears like the que's for episode II or titanic.
long like her legs.
eventually i took the job
what's a geek to do?
"
that's geek noir:)
jazz
response 68 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 13 21:22 UTC 2002

        That's nerd noir.

Geek noir is Poppy Z. Brite or John Shirley. Blade Runner, on a
budget.
phenix
response 69 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 13 21:46 UTC 2002

you're right, geek noir would have had far more literary obscure references

I just burst out laughing as I got this mental image of phenix, dressed in
trench coat and fedora, talking to some cute black-clad teary-eyed techie type
chick, and out of his mouth comes the phrase "sweat cheeks". :):):)

response 73 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 14 03:29 UTC 2002

resp:68 hmmm, so gamer stuff would fit into that?
jazz
response 74 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 14 15:35 UTC 2002

It's not that obscure. You can find Shirley at mall bookstores, and
Brite is pretty famous insofar as horror authors go, and has edited most of
the anthologies of modern vampire fiction. 'Sides, I made up the term, and
I can use it any way I want ... :)

I'm pretty sure that gaming things would wind up as nerd noir, but
there's a caveat. Any kind of gaming that involved breaking and entering or
actual combat is more in the geek vein, so the SCA and real-life
tunnelcrawling both qualify as geek noir. Wizards of the Coast qualifies as
gambling, and therefore real good old fashioned noir. White Wolf is nerd
noir.
phenix
response 75 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 14 17:01 UTC 2002

but white wolf is usually known for live action
hmmm
jazz
response 76 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 14 17:21 UTC 2002

Wrong kind of live action, though.
phenix
response 77 of 115: Mark Unseen   Mar 14 17:57 UTC 2002

depends on how "mature" the players are
