re #47
Why diet squirt?

response 53 of 149: Mark Unseen   Jan 10 18:06 UTC 2006

re #47 why would you mix DIET squirt with sherbert or ice cream?
Doesn't the sugar in the sherbert render the lack of sugar in the soda
a bit irrelevant? I'd think you'd logically use regular Squirt for
that.

she'd get way more sugar that way, dipstick.

I was just curious why not Vernors or Canada Dry or something a Detroit native
would appreciate more unless its all about the "lime".

Squirt is grapefruit-flavored (supposedly, anyway..), lime doesn't
have anything to do with it.

I don't eat grapefruit but it clears up why I despise drinking Squirt.

Re resp:50: I'm not sure exactly what the definition of "soap" is.
Detergents make water "wetter" by breaking up the surface tension.

Well, Vernor's and vanilla ice cream is pretty good, I've had that a few
times at a friend's (we don't tend to drink much/any Vernor's at my house).

It alledgedly has something to do with Boston Blvd in Detroit, either
via Vernors or Sanders (or both).

It comes from a bartender named Mr.Boston that worked for the Purple Gang on
Hastings St. The vanilla ice cream was Stroh's and the ginger ale was
Vernors. That's what gramps told me and he lived right there on Hastings.

Mmm. I love Boston Coolers. Does anyone remember the Vernors flavored
ice cream? That was good too.

Jim is back from Ireland and does not know what they call soda there. He did
not drink any because nobody offered it to him. He lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks
eating other people's cooking and is now making it up eating chocolate and
cookies.

I usually have the opposite problem, gaining weight from all
the tasty guiness and my cousin's (in Dublin) cooking.

fyi, the original diet sodas, the first ones that came out as diet
brands, were Tab and Fresca. The pepsi company looked at tab's sales
and came out with Diet Pepsi soon thereafter.
