I agree with most of what you said, especially
5. Learn something. There was no "nation." It was an area formerly
controlled by the Ottomans. In fact, no real nation existed there
since the Jews were exiled in the 1st century.

"Truman" by David McCullough is very revealing about how really ugly it was
to convince anyone on Israel. Truman was completely against it until finally
his longtime childhood friend and former business partner (also Jewish)
convinced him how important a homeland would be for Jews. It was one of those
"this transcends politics" decisions and I wouldn't be surprised if it also
was a spiritual mission for Truman to get past the nuclear bombings.
