A deeper investigation of the deaths disclosed that there is a second drug
that also needs to be taken. The distinction in terms of health outcomes
appears to be whether or not the second drug is taken orally or vaginally.
Don't hold your breath waiting for the anti-RU486 crowd to grasp that
subtlety, however.

People also die due to other medication, or surgery - and there are no deaths
from the RU-486 procedure if the FDA guidelines are followed. That news bit
is irrelevant to the discussion of abortion.

I'm as much against RU-486 as I am against any other abortion.
I was uninformed about Plan B and started out against it. I've now
moved to a neutral position. I am not sure if I should consider it to
be an abortion. If it is not killing a fetus, then I am not against it.

Plan B does not kill a fetus. From what I understand, it prevents an
egg from being fertalized.

No, but since RU-486 is effective in the first two months of pregnancy,
and the embryonic stage ends on the 6th weeks, there are two weeks
where RU-486 could be used to abort a fetus.
What happens when RU486 is taken after the first two months of
pregnancy?

" Plan B works like other birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. Plan
B acts primarily by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary
(ovulation). It may prevent the union of sperm and egg (fertilization).
If fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from
attaching to the womb (implantation). If a fertilized egg is implanted
prior to taking Plan B, Plan B will not work. "
