Thanks Valerie. I was only pretend pouting. But I *am* proud of myself for
taking a risk in an area where I don't have a huge amount of confidence. I'm

Actually, if STeve and TS are able to find a mutually
agreeable time, what Ameritech will most likely do is
send out a person to <wherever> to do the training.
Don't expect this person to be very knowledgeable,
though. We were very unimpressed with the person that
Ameritech sent to us.
At any rate, make *sure* that the Ameritech training
person *leaves the Centrex Mate manual*. It is that
manual which will have the answers to all of your
questions. Also, given that I manage all the Centrex
lines for our company, and given that you'll get an
800 number to dial, I can help you manage the hunt
from here. <grin> And don't forget to put cfdtn on
each of the lines. 8^)

What is cfdtn?
(Actually, if more than one person from Grex can go get trained in this stuff,
it would probably be better to send multiple Grex staffers, rather than just
random interested Grexers. It's great that both STeve and Mike will know how
to do this stuff, but there may be times when something needs to be done to
the lines and neither STeve or Mike are available)

a reasonable portion of my support *does* come from direct telephone
work, and adding more qualifications to assist grex as well as me would
appear to be more advantageous that 'randomly interested,' if taht was
part of the implication, above. <g>

I just read the entire discussion (1st time) because I wanted to check
moving date since my pick-up truck has asked for the chance to do the
move (not only computers have ego's ;) ) I wlts that I am impressed
y wht has gone in to this effort. I do have an idea for the desk.
It would possibly be a viable "statement" for Joe tiboni in his front
yard. I am sure he could do something with it. Thanks for being
such a great process!

You're exactly right, Valerie. With cfdtn, you
can forward a call to the next line in the hunt
after three rings. With cfdvt=#, you can specify
the number of rings after which it will forward.
We have our lines set to forward after two rings,
since all our modems answer after one ring.

Nope, moving is *next* Thursday or Friday. And moving was rather
forced, but it still wasn't a bad idea :-).

Everyone will know when we're mobing, because Grex will be shut down
during that time period. I'm hoping for only 4 hours or so, but that
will mutate into an entire day if the phone don't transfer over easily.

Way, way back there somebody said that the 3000 number would be the first on
the hunt list.
What does that do to us technology poor non-techies who are reaching grex on
<gasp> antique equipment? Precisely: one MacPlus and one 1200 baud modem.
Does this mean that the 1200 baud parts of Grex will be busy most of the time
'cause they are the *first* ones that get connected?

Nope, 3000 is currently at the front of the list, so nothing will
change. Grex's faster modems can also answer at lower speeds, so
by dialing 761-3000, you'll get access to any free modem. People
who dial 761-5041 skip the 2400baud-only lines, so they have more
chance of getting a busy signal. Even when Grex upgrades its modems
so they all answer at higher speeds, your 1200 baud modem should
work be able to connect with every line.

Less techie explanation... 761-3000 is "first", out of a group of lines that
ring the next line if they are busy. So if the first four lines are busy,
dialing 3000 will connect you to the fifth modem.

Catriona, we'll e supporting 1200bps for the forseeable future.
Right now, all the good modei I know of do this, but that will not
be true forever. At some point 1200bps connections won't be supported
by newer modei, and you'll have to get a newer modem. The good news
is that 14.4Kbps modei are available for $60 or so.
I will vnture to saythat Grex will support 1200bps for three years
more, at least.
I went by the pumpkin to see the artwork on the wall. It's
neat,but we'll have to offer covering it up with new paint when
we leave. TA/Kami, yu need to finish the painting ASAP, like
this weekend if at all possible. There are shelves that should
be installed on the wall where the butterfly is; Mr. butterfly
himself needs to move to a different wall, as the phone patch
panel needs to go there.

The butterfly was Popcorn's masterpeice. I'll try and come in Monday (lack
of key...) and finish what I can do. Anyone who's over there is *most*
welcome to pick up a brush themselves and go to town. Art by concensus...

I just got off the phone, talking with out account rep about our
moving date. The final word is that are moving Monday, October 21st.
He tried getting us moved earlier, but to no avail.
It will be tight, moving on Monday like that, but I think we can do it.

If we get one days more delay, which with Ameritech is certainly possible,
we will still be there. Unless we decide to move on Monday even if Ameritech
isn't ready. If there is some delay, I'd much rather not be giving the city
a panic call on the morning of the 22nd. I'd rather tell them in advance that
due to Ameritech's delays we are being force to cut things close.
