I believe both vitrify and pollex were the only words matching each clue set.
By series, serial, we knew: ____es 1. If _____s 1, then kill__ 3 and pelt__
3, which is not possible, therefore ____e_ 1. From killer, silken we know
k__l_r 1 and _il___ 1. If _i____ 1 then p__t_d 2 and c__t_r 2, which is not
possible, therefore __l_e_ 2. This leaves us with:
do_b__ 1
k__l_r 1
p__t_d 1
co_t_r 1
Now, if c_____ 1 then ___b__ 1 then _____r 0/1
If ___t__ 1 then d_____ 1 then _____r 0/1
If _____r 1 then p_____ 1 and ___b__ 1 so: p_lber 5
Otherwise _o___ 1 which leaves
p____d 1 and k__l__ 1:
p__l__ 2 or k____d 2 or ___l_d 2,
polle_ 5 or kol_ed 5 or _olled 5
(the last two of which being ruled out by evanid)

So polle_ 5 or p_lber 5
For p_lber, OneLook gives no responses
For polle_, OneLook gives polled, pollen, poller, pollex, all but the last
of which are ruled out.

Gr, I made a mistake. _i___ 1, p__t_d 2, c__t_r 2, k__l_r 1 is possible if
p__t_r 3, giving us pi_ter 5, which gives us piuter 6 when combined with
doubts, which may be ruled out but isn't a word regardless.

Anyway, my new word isn't
