my god, kent, how did you do that? was that just an educated guess?
I defer regardless. Kent's up.

The only words with a score of 2 were of the pattern -h---e-. Most of the
initial -h patterns had been eliminated. Most of the e- final patterns
had been eliminated. Not a lot left to choose from. Having a large
vocabulary helps.

That was a guess pure and simple, but one that fit the pattern of the
previous guesses, as Joe indicated. I did look up phellem to see what
it was (n : (botany) outer tissue of bark; a protective layer of dead
cells [syn: {cork}]). That was the education part ;)
I'll try to have a word in mind next time.

I got that word because "phylum" popped in mind, but a trip to yon on-line
dictionary told me it only had one "l", but offered me a few other 7-letter
words that were close, and I decided people would prefer "phellem" to
"phallus"... even though most of you would probably expect me to choose the
latter. No, I'll just comment on it instead. ;}

Okay, I'm thinking of a 7-letter word, which happens to not be:
phellem 0 (Last Word)
A summary of guesses is in ~kentn/letter.match7. I may not be
able to respond quickly in the next several days, so be patient.
