Very well, I hereby enter a (somewhat easy I'm sure) quote.
It was a slow day, and the sun was beating on the soldiers by the side of the
road. THere was a bright light, a shattering of shop windows, the bomb in
the baby carriage was wired to the radio...

I didn't think it was *that* easy--I'll have to go more eclectic next time
I suppose...you're up scott

It should be a tough one, but I used to know that album pretty well. :)
Pebble by pebble, sand grain by sand grain
Shore turns to sea, shore turns to ocean
Serpent creates the high tides
To assure all good is floatin'
(more available if nobody guesses... this is an obscure tune off a hit album
in the last several years)

No idea, I'm afraid. As a wild guess I'd say Tori Amos, though I don't
recognize the song. Maybe a little more could jog our memories?

This was the one big album from a obscure to sudden MTV fame group. they had
a followup live album from their MTV unplugged, with a couple new songs. The
group is actually quite religious, and this tune is an example. about 4 or
5 years ago?

I'll guess the Cranberries.

Cranberries aren't terribly religions from what I've heard. Many bands I know
of followed that "Big album, sudden fame, MTV appearance" path, but most are
either quite non-religious, or released more than 1 album before fading.

There were songs about parenting, the homeless, and other moral issues.
Pretty positive message, not what you'd expect when somebody says "really
religous".

Here's some more from the song:
Serpent knows once shores are gone
There's nothing left but ocean and sea
A few persons trying to save the shore
Some of those persons are A. D.
(Big monster hint right there!)

ok.. obscure it is!
I looked out, in the night
Strange and startling
Was this voice of time just saying
There's got to be a linking of everyone
Got to be a centre
It all comes flooding back
