Why should anyone "own" any channels?
scg
response 51 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 1 06:25 UTC 1995

Does anybody "own" any channels? Even on the channels where somebody is
maintaining a noisetab for them (the channel in question is not one of those)
it would be no more accurate to say that somebody "owns" the channel than it
would be to say that staff "owns" Grex just because they do the work to keep
it running.

Well, I've now seen about 6 instances of people saying "get the @*^@#
off my channel!" in party in the last month. I think that there are
people, perhaps even many, who do feel an ownership of them.

Right.. sorry to say it, but these requested channels feel
"owned", both by the owner, and by the people who are <or aren't>
invited there.
The channel in question has caused a major disturbance in
party, because, for a while, llanarth DID have the noisetab in her
control, and it was a bit of a fight to get at least THAT taken back.
But, because of that, no one wants to touch it anymore..
It's distasteful.

Why don't we create some number of fixed channels and call it
done?
selena
response 55 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 3 04:59 UTC 1995

That might work, if the impromtu channel commands could be left open..
like whatever_x would be a private channel that would only exist while it's
users were in it..

How many channels do you have?

response 57 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 3 20:42 UTC 1995

Quite a few, mlady, and almost all of them are "owned" by one user.
I personally find the conceppt silly, as the noisetab for party is
rich enough, and easily addable-to.

response 58 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 4 00:16 UTC 1995

There's an infinite number of possible party channels.
In party, type #channelname (where "channelname" is whatever channel name
you want) to create a temporary channel with nearly any name you like.

Okay, but the ones that stick around sound like they're the
ones causing trouble. How many of those do you have, and who owns them?

So Oldfolks is not "attached" to llanarth?
selena
response 62 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 4 05:38 UTC 1995

That list is misleading. I know for a fact that Basket is linked to
Shade's noisetab, giving her control of it. How about listing those?
janc
response 63 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 4 16:59 UTC 1995

Whoops, selena is right. My list in #60 is dead wrong. Something misfired
in my editor. I'll censor it and post a correct one.

Gosh Darn it, why am I having endless glitches posting this? What is in the
response, isn't even what's in my file. Some how it all got shuffled around
while I cut/pasted it into this window. One more try:

Seeing as they are alphabetically listed, and there appears to be no overlap
between the two columns, then if the info itself is correct, it would seem
to be right.

In which case, I can now raise the question I asked earlier: so, Oldfolks
is NOT "owned" (whatever that means) by llanarth?
mlady
response 72 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 6 19:14 UTC 1995

That's a hell of a lot! How many are owned by the same person?
steve

selena
response 74 of 124: Mark Unseen   Oct 7 05:04 UTC 1995

A lot are owned by a few, if I remember right.
llanarth had it set up for her. It only has the normal noisetab
because we other users of oldfolks_x faught for that, and she can
change that anytime she feels like it, so yes, it is still hers.
