You are all my pseudo's, part of my Grand Experiment known to the
world at large as Ann Arbor..

In fact, Ann Arbor itself is a pseudo. It's really Adelaide, Australia. :)

You mean it's not Lebanon, IL?

Shh. Don't tell anybody. Adelaide, Australia, is really a pseudo of Lebanon,
IL.

I think we need a *new* extension of the new-conference-proposal item.

Yup, that and the new board nominations item, too.

I'd like to propose a conference for the people who run various freenets and
community networks around the state of Michigan to use to communicate with
one another. We've had 2 face-to-face meetings of this group over the past
six months, and are now thinking about moving the discussion to another venue
instead of having everybody travel in from all over the state once every three
months. People are still discussing whether or not a conference would be
useful, but I figured I'll propose it now, so that it can be created right
away if the group decides they want it.

Please do this, now.

Well, it's usual to have 3-5 days to talk about a new conference before it
is created.

<talk talk>

Nice song, but the group itself is a tad boring.

Probably by the time the group decides whether it wants it or
not, the 5 days will have elapsed. It probably wouldn't hurt
to tell the freenet folks explicitly that if they want the
conference, it'll be created.

Agreed. If they want it, it will be, after all.

Interesting..is this a conf that would be simulatenousl linked
to all these other freenets? (or at least the unix ones?)

response 67 of 136: Mark Unseen   Nov 15 07:09 UTC 1995

Nope. They would have to log in to Grex to access it.

It would also be freely readable by everyone who wants to.
The current mailling list is not.

It would also be freely writeable to by everyone who wants to.
The current mailing list is not.

I believe that the members of the list will not be very interested,
under these circumstances. However, I do not wish to put words in
their mouths. I would like very much to see them using a conference to
communicate. I just don't think that they will.

I don't think so either, but because of time constraints, not because other
people can join in on the discussions.

response 70 of 136: Mark Unseen   Nov 15 12:34 UTC 1995

Horse + water = wasted opportunity. Oh, well. Perhaps the group has no real
need to fill since it has had limited enthusiasm about meeting this month.
I still plan to urge them to do this. Sometimes there are discussions they
may want to keep from public view, such as security problems, but there are
other means to discuss those. I would like to see it work.

I think this conference would be a neat idea, too!
And no, I am not Arnold...8-)

I think we sholuld do this only if the target users are interested. Are
they?
popcorn
response 74 of 136: Mark Unseen   Dec 1 14:29 UTC 1995

So, shall we go ahead and create this conference? I'm up for it, but
fear that the only people who would use it would be people from Grex and
HVCN. But I think it's worth trying, anyway.

Arnold, would you be interested in fair witnessing it?
