i keep forgetting if the little theatre is 200 or 600...but i think that it's
the former....

(do you really want me and dang working on anything together....it could
get interesting....*evil grin*)

Well, as I live a ways from Ann Arbor, volunteering my cooperation
could prove difficult. I don't have any problem coming down there once
a month or so, but this would require a bit more, I presume.

I'm willing to help, too. I haven't been able to be here much, but Grex
definitely needs support!!! (hmm, could be fairly athletic support, given
some of wolfmage's shows......). Lessee, not many of you know me...
I'm a science-fiction/folk musician, 15 years professional (bar) experience;
some backstage experience. If one of the shows requiring a warmup is chosen,
I feel that I can provide a fair juxtaposition to the show. If not, stick
me backstage.

We need to get someone to take the lead on this project and get it moving.

I was under the impression that that would be wolfmage, or do I miss
your point, jan?

This was brought up a bit at the board meeting. Some of the feelings
expressed were that the project needed someone to act as a "promoter/
producer," a key person to take responsibility for all the details getting
done. Kenn (wolfmage) is also essential, but wouldn't fill this role.

Comments on overall feasibility were mixed...a couple people felt this
seems like a risky departure from Grex's norm, others felt it's a good way
to involve non-tech people in helping Grex, and there was a general desire
for more info. There was concern that without board sanction, a promoter
might not step forward to move things along, but that without a promoter,
there's nobody to give a clear plan to the board (e.g. "we'll do X shows,
using the Y theatres, and need Z dollars.") It was also suggested that we
might look into getting a local business to co-sponsor/underwrite an event.

There was some more, too, this concept would encourage & permit & engage
tne non-techi-geek Grexer to *add* something to this system. There has
been, historically, a lot of volunteer enthusiasm/pressure to "do some-
thing" for Grex, but few openings for such pressure to be relieved.

This is that opening (a first one, anyway), imho. And if i remember
the Borg meeting sequence .. it might have been ajax who recognized
this opportunity for the non-techie crowd to contribute/volunteer.

We're still waiting for the promoter/producer to step forward and say,
"I'll do it and here's the plan."

i'd be glad to help the p/p, but unfortunately i don't have enough time to
actually take that job...

since an overfull, small theatre has more pizzazz than a half-full medium
theatre, my suggestion would be to check out thje +availability+ of
houses with seating of approx 100 +/-. Ticket prices of $6-$8 is about
the norm for the A2 area even for thje untried. And since this town is
completly filthy with live theatre ...... Netting a hundred bodies on
a first-of show is, imo, a reasonable, worthy goal - and 50 would be
fine also.

For booking information and availability for PERFORMANCE NETWORK, call
313-663-0696 noon-6pm weekdays and ask for Johanna. The Network is generally
booked 6-8 months in advance for weekends, but there is some allowance for
weekday shows on short notice depebding entirely upon how short the notice,
what else is in the space that week, the show's needs, and how prepared and
competent the production staff for the show is/are.
If you have general questions about the Network, on an informal basis, or
technical questions about its facilities, I can be reached by voicemail at
313-480-7636. My name is Eric Bassey, and I am on Tech Staff at the Network.
I will try to answer all calls within 48 hours, but as I am very busy these
days, I will make no guarantees.

My most sincere and humble apologies to the entire Grex community. The staff
has not yet received the proposal I promised, due to a problem with one of
our agents. Now that he *completely* understands our agreement (contract) with
him, and realizes that we are free to book engagements in which he has no
part, the proposal will be on the way *very* soon. (Tomorrow's mail?)

Have the Persons In Authority received the proposal yet? I'm very bullish
on this idea, given the diversity of the people involved and my own
personal admiration for same, and I'd like to hear more.

response 68 of 82: Mark Unseen   Dec 16 18:47 UTC 1995

The persons in authority have received the proposal. The board consensus was
that it is a neat idea, but really needs somebody to take charge of it and
work to make it happen, rather than just throwing money at it. Nobody has
stepped forward and volunteered to coordinate it yet, as far as I know. Are
you interested?

response 70 of 82: Mark Unseen   Dec 18 02:03 UTC 1995

Uh Steve, did we get the specifics from them yet? If so I must plead
ignorance on it. We got something that talked about things in general,
as I remember, but I had thought we were waiting for another item that
went into the costs in more detail.
   Am I missing something (again)?
scg
response 71 of 82: Mark Unseen   Dec 18 07:18 UTC 1995

I don't remember exactly how it went. I think we wanted more specifics as
well, but also wanted somebody willing to produce the whole thing or the point
would be moot. We must have minutes that would tell us somewhere in this
conference. I think it was the October meeting that this was discussed in.
I agree with you that we should have more specifics before voting to spend
any money on it, but maybe getting such specifics should be the producer's
first task.

response 73 of 82: Mark Unseen   Dec 19 01:40 UTC 1995

I think we got more specifics, but they weren't quite specific enough.
That is, we got a lot more info, but there were still a lot of unanswered
questions, such as how much would an auditorium cost and how many tickets
do we think we could actually sell?
carson
response 74 of 82: Mark Unseen   Dec 19 14:34 UTC 1995

I suppose that such things would be looked at by the people down
here rather than the people up there.

(*ouch* bad joke!)
