IBB of a programming issue . . . I don't think this is the right item
to describe the problem in.

You don't want to. Really. Not only do we suck, but half the people are
bitter about it. Loudly. Repeatedly.

IBB two great performing artists died today. Milton Berle, who laid
claim to being the nation's first television star, died at age 93.
And Dudley Moore, famed british comedian and pianist, and star of
such films as "Arthur", died after a long illness at age 66.
RIP.

Yes, but after a season of being captain, I can actually lead practices and
help make people better and stuff. Plus, it's ice time. That's in awfully
short supply out here.

Martial arts school annual banquet (big big deal) is 8 days away, and the
guitarist I finally found for the band (all people who train at this school)
isn't even returning phone calls to schedule our first rehearsal. I really
shouldn't have let people talk me into giving the guy a second (third?)
chance.

Kat (the Great Undatable One) and I are most likely in the process of breaking
up. We've known for a while that it's just not gonna work out without a bunch
more work from both of us. The hard part is saying, "You know what? I'm not
willing to work that hard." More honest than promising to and then not doing
it, which is what we've done so far, but still hard.

That it is. For the first few months of our relationship, we were "just ...
friends. Really." After that, The Great Undatable One seemed like too good
of a title to pass up.

Total bullshit performance review. Two months of 60+ hour weeks to meet some
arbitrary deadline, continually working late to cover other people's asses
at the last minute, singlehandedly maintaining three times as much code as
anyone else, all kinds of urgent sysadmin tasks that seemingly no one else
can do, and consistently writing the larges volume, highest quality code in
the company -- all reduced to a grudging "you've shown *some* technical
skills, but..." Now I'm "failing to meet expectations". I hate this job.

Can you appeal? Otherwise, cut back to your normal responsibilities, and
if anyone complains, tell them that by overextending yourself, you were
creating a situation which made it impossible to meet "expectations."
See what they do then... meantime, see what the job market looks like.

Yeah. I think other's advice in #70 really is good. I dont know what
kind of supervisor you have but I know that when I found myself in a
similar situation, it helped to point out to him all of the extra
things I was doing. I didnt get a promotion because my technical skills
were lacking so I pointed out that he was A) Comparing me to people
whose skills were in excess of what the job required so that while I
didnt have the same skills they had, I had the skills to do the job and
B) It was hard for me to aquire new skills because I was busy doing X,
Y and Z (which were all things that he didnt really realize I was
doing). Then I reminded him of some very successful projects I had
headed earlier in the year that he had forgotten about. blah blah blah.
It must have had some effect, I got the promotion 3 months later.

ibb one of my good friend's father just died suddenly in an accident. Closed
head injury, they say he died instantly.
All this was very sudden, and my friend hadn't been getting along with his
father for a few months previous. So this is rough.
