I bought a beautiful native american drum on Tuesday at
Falling Water. I've been thinking about drums for awhile,
and while I was there looking for something else, I felt
attracted to this large drum. I tried to talk myself out of
it, but in the end, my intuition won. It has a deep, round
sound. I found drumming with it earlier today to be wonderfully
hypnotic. I'm thinking about attending the Friday night
drum circle that's listed in the Ann Arbor Observer. I'll
let you know how it turns out if I go.

I've done a lot of choral singing, some madrigal singing (which I loved and
miss) I play violin and can sit at a piano without looking too ridiculous
though I can't play it too well anymore.

Sunday afternoon we went to "Jimmy" Galway's concert. He is a "real card",
a bit of a "jerk" (he told us what he does with all his money - he buys
flutes - the one he was playing was all platinum), and he played
exquisitely. That's another story. This story is about meeting him. Our
daughter Vittoria ("V") is in the 6th grade and is studying flute at
Tappan. So she got on the line to get his autograph, along with ca. 50
others. I went with her for moral support. On line we met flute students
at UM, who were eager to give us their name and address, as I mentioned
that we are looking for private lessons for V. That led to a lot of people
exchanging names and addresses, as they were interested in either teaching
or finding lessons. We got to Jimmy. V tried to hide behind me, as she was
overwhelmed, so I introduced her to Jimmy and said that "she is the
flutist". He looked at me, and asked "Why aren't you a flutist?" I said
that I never started. He said "Well, you can start now." He meanwhile
autographed his photo in the program, as did his accompanionist
Christopher O'Riley, and then turned his attention to the next in line.
The question is - will I suddenly find a talent I had never had, if I pick
up a flute?

No. But you might find one you didn't know you had.
Cute story.

power has recently been taking samples using his SEXY computer and looping
them. He's also done a little composing, being interested in many types
of music.

If you're into weird eclectic dark pop, go buy my band's (The MayTricks) albums
por favor. I've also got a folky balld
[B[B[B
ballad-filled solo thing.. they're at all A-2 record stores (I think).

I play guitar, keyboards, bass and clarinet, and probably drums and
saxophone though I don't have those last two. Maybe I should make a big
multi-instrumentalist album?
Trouble is the sort of music I like warrants a group to play it rather
than one person

Sorry for the previous stupidity. I'm just learning this particular system.
Anyways, I like to write music, computer music to be specific. I learned to rea
d music while playing a clarinet (so it didn't really help me with keyboards).
I'm not really good at live music (having never done it) but am pretty good at
doing the 'puter type. MODs and related file formats are my favs, but soon I
hope to get into MIDI. Anybody got any ideas about that? Being obsenely poor
I don't have the money to buy anything I really want, like sequencers and qual
ty samplers. Not lik e I need them, but I would like to move up a bit. Many
of my more industrial-minded friends love my "music" and want me to try to get
with a label. I wouldn't mind but don't have the start-up capital. Anybody
wanna contribute? :) I think I have a few MOD collections out there on some
random FTP site, under either Entropy, N-Tro-P, or Necromancer II, but not sure
since I had others do it for me. :( <sigh> Right now I have about 15+ MODs
that are "done" with about 6-8 that I actually like. If you want to hear any
of them, um....tell me how to get them to you and I'll send them. I'm looking
for intelligent criticism. :) Well, enough of this. Talk at ya soon.,

I play teh double bass, as well as most of the other strings. I can sing a
fairly mean contraltro if pressed, or an almost acceptable mezzo if absolutely
forced. I also love to sing pop and folk, just for fun.

I play the guitar (a 30's Gibson acoustic), some woodwinds, but have a Yamaha
connected to my computer. I can also do mandolin and fiddle (same tuning),
and have a flute that I rarely play. I have a hand made 12 string that needs
repair (I've been too broke to replace the worn out frets), but have been
mostly doing MIDI with the Yamaha. I have been trying to do MIDI backgrounds
with the Yamaha (mostly drums and bass) to accompany my guitar parts, but I'm
still learning.
