There should be a mute option for telephone hold music - maybe the #
button.

There is only you have to on hold for an entire day to hear which button
it is. But that isn't true it is more than one button...

#48: We used to put WIQB for the hold music but I got some complaints from
people who didn't like rock. No one has really complained about the
     classical music.

The worst possible hold music comes from a radio station that isn't tuned in!

What software company does that, Valerie?

Many of the larger ones, actually. I saw a story in the WSJ a few months ago
that mentioned Microsoft and Wordperfect, I think...

I think now it's more banter in the evening... when I drive home from work
around 5, I go insane flipping radio stations because it's lke they want to
cram all the ads, traffic reports, ads, jokes, listnerar calls, and ADS!!
Stupid ads at that. Why don't radio stations play music for once?

Well, since we have a vendor here....not even classical music is
desirable to me, even though its always better than rock (IMO!). What
I would like is SILENCE, and a loud BEEP when someone finally answers.
That way I can read or work on other things, without annoying sounds.
Another option would be to be able to leave your phone number for the
company to call back. That might even save them money, compared to
hanging on an 800 number.

I think people would be afraid that the company would not call back, hang up,
and re-dial, costing the company even more.

#58: The reason for the music is so people know they are still on hold and
the phone hasn't hung up. When a company puts me on hold, which happens
a lot because I also do the purchasing, I usually just put the phone
down, activate the speaker phone, and do some work.

Agreed. I'd much rather hear a well-read fairy tale on _Rabbit Ears Radio_
than someone whining about the state of the country, or screaming at me to
call and win concert tickets.
