In the case of my marriage, we've always had reasonably well-
defined areas of responsibility around the house (I do most of the child
care, he does the "puttering" (i.e. repairs, car maintenance, etc.) but
the edges have always been blurred. The secret to it working well for
us, I think, is that we don't just offer lip-service to the importance of
each others' responsibilities but we really appreciate the other person's
competence and contributions.
BTW, I'm very analytical and my husband is quite "feeling-oriented" for
what it's worth.
