The donor has been informed of the conversation, a while ago. The donor
has neither commented to me privately nor requested that I stop talking
about it, so I'm assuming the donor has nothing to say which has not been
said. (Anonymity is an extremely odd thing, considering how polite y'all
have been when it should be blatantly obvious who the donor is... 8^)

My feelings about the UPS were that it was something that A) needs
to be done, B) isn't as high a priority as other things at the moment,
C) would be dealt with most probably by looking for a good deal on a
new one since the used one we were thinking was dead.

Will Grex get a UPS at some point? I do hope so. It won't be
cheap, probably more than $500, so we'll have to deal with this issue
from the $0 standpoint later this year.

The $0 standpoint? There were $250 in donations toward this, of which
$100 has been withdrawn, but Valerie said in #11 she'd donate $100 if Grex
is going to buy a UPS. So I don't think of it as starting from $0.
By the way, Mark, as a suggestion, it might be useful to denote "set aside
project money" in the monthly budget reports as separate from the main
balance, or as an "of this amount, $x is set aside for...." addendum.
Both modem and UPS donations have been specifically earmarked for those.

I wonder how if we'd see a lot fewer crashes if we had a UPS.

We'd see maybe one or two less, over the course of these last
several months. Grex runs on a power conditioner, which does a
good job of smoothing out the power. For real problems, like the
mini-outage I saw one Thursday maybe two months ago, a UPS would
be required.
During the thunderstorm season, it would help out quite a lot.
We lost a memory card to that thunderstorm we had in late June
(or early July), and a UPS might have changed that.
Thanks Rob--you are right, we're at $150 now--I had forgotten
about the other amounts specified.

I wrote the check tonight; it will go out in tomorrow's mail.
That's a good idea about breaking up the balance, Rob. I'll see if I can do
that.

BTW the donor did identify the flower to my satisfaction.
