This is definitely still needed, and my place is a fine place to drop
it off. If you can spare two, I think we can put both of them to
good use. Thanks!!

Today STeve, scg, and I met Ian and Ian's helper to put up drywall.
I lasted for maybe the first 3 hours, but folks weren't done when I
left, so hopefully a Steve can enter the final report.

When I left the outer drywall was mostly up, the drywall for inside
the room was in the process of being put up, and folks were having a
very difficult time drilling a hole in the foundation to put the
ventillation fan's duct through. Evidently the building is 150 years
old, and the foundation is made of 7 inches of solid walnut, which
I'm told is expensive today, and very hard. Folks were trying to drill
through it, but the drill was self-destructing instead of making a hole.

Mju showed up, sometime after Valerie left, with a very long drill bit.
Mark and STeve used that and a saw that Ian had to work on the hole for
the vent. STeve was still working on the vent hole when Mark and I left..
Significant progress had been made already, and Ian said he would finish
it sometime during the week if STeve doesn't get it finished. As it
stands now, all the drywall is up except for the piece that needs to wait
for the vent. Ian says he can have that up and have all the taping done
before next weekend, when the painting is scheduled.

Sunday the drywall got up, except for the ceiling piece that would
have obstructed the work on The Hole.
The Hole is the portal to the outside world for the vent to rid the
heat that will build up in the dungeon. Unforunately, The Hole is going
through 11+ inches of metalwood. It is purported to me walnut (or maybe
maple) but I say its metalwood. Marc and I spent about 3.5 hours Sunday
on it, and I spent 3 hours today (monday) getting a 4" diameter hole
created. Today I managed to knock out large portions of wood, but we don't
have a 4" circular hole yet. The saw I was using (a DeWalt handheld
virtical unit) wasn't working for me when I was trying to cut away the
upper pieces of wood. I'll be talking to Ian about that.
Today, the dungeon had the last remaining peices of drywall added,
and the first coat of the whatever-its-called spackling was put on. But
The Hole still has to be tamed.

I went down there this evening with the table, but since there was still
spackling in porgress, I left it in the storage room. I suppose the table
can stay there until after the room is painted.

During the week last week, STeve and Marc finished drilling the hole in
the wall for the fan venting.

On Saturday, Carl and STeve hung the last piece of drywall (it was waiting
for the fan to go in). Carl, nephi, popcorn, robh, and scg put primer on
the walls.

On Sunday, carl, nephi, pegasus, popcorn, and scg painted the room, and
carl did some spackling of the floor. We put covers on the electrical
outlets. Gregc came by and did some planning for the phone lines.
I also got some strange phone calls from the landlords (they seem to be
having a dispute with one another), which I will be following up.

During the week, Carl and possibly some helpers will be washing the floor
of the room and then putting on two coats of floor paint. Greg will be
wiring the phones. Ma Bell is supposedly turning on the phones on Wednesday.

Many thanks to everybody who worked on the dungeon!
If you worked on the dungeon and I forgot to mention your name here,
please say something -- and many thanks to you too!

Aw, thanks! Your desire to help is appreciated. I'm sure if you lived
closer you'd be out painting with the rest of us.

   Thanks, Andy. It's interesting--as we've grown, we've made new
friends, some of whom aren't so close. I can remember talking with
Marcus about this a long time ago, that we'd see active folks on Grex
who wern't so close. Now it is a reality. Wow.

From response #44, here's the schedule for moving day:

Here's the schedule for moving day (January 22nd).

(Numbers 1 and 2 are omitted, because they are done.)

 3) Greg or Valerie will be sure the van will be available at 8am on the
22nd. If Greg's sleep schedule allows, he will drive the van over to CE.
If not, Valerie will collect the van from Greg the night before.

 4) 8am on the 22nd at CE: shut down Grex. Remove big components that
aren't needed for the backup. Bring Grex back up in single user mode, to
do a backup. While the backup is in progress, people will dismantle the
big components that were removed, labeling each cable as it is disconnected.

 5) Move big components to the Dungeon while the backup progresses.

 6) When the backup is finished and the truck is back at CE from the
Dungeon, dismantle the rest of Grex, again labeling each cable as it is
disconnected. Move that to the Dungeon.

 7) Reassemble everything.

 8) Power up, test, and re-reassemble everything.

Initially we wanted to make a list of which components to move in what
sequence, so that they would fit neatly into the dungeon. Actually, it
looks like as long as the table is there ahead of time, the actual sequence
in which components arrive in the dungeon doesn't matter: it will all fit.
