Danr asked Arnold Barr to mail me -- thank you very much! I'll be
there, but representing Arbornet, not Grex. I'm excited about the
possibilities of getting funding for all of us.

Cool! I've tried once or twice to get the HVCN and Arbornet in touch
with one another -- I'm glad it worked!
Robh - Do you need a ride from home or from work? I could pick you
up at work pretty easily, but home is a bit far for a 5pm meeting.

I'll be working until 4:30, so yes, getting a ride from work,
then to home, would be perfect!

Sounds cool !!! Wish I could be there, but I think a 1500 mile commute is a
bit long, esp since I dont' get out of class until 2pm... *sigh*

Linda Clippert (linda) will also be at the meeting.
I've wanted to get together with HVCN folks for a while, but their
meetings all seem to start at 5:00 -- and I work until 5:30. I'll be
there tomorrow by happy chance; I have the day off. Oh, well, once we can
talk, we should be able to find some means of keeping in touch. I do
appreciate your efforts, Valerie!

Yeah. The 5PM meetings of HVCN are a pain. I can usually stick around
for a while, but I have been leaving early from every one of them.
I'll probably be doing the same, today. At least there will be a lot
of other Grexers there too.

Gee, it sounds like you two are a pair: one can catch the beginnning
of the meeting, the other can get the latter part !! :-)

Well, thats Grex. It seems like for the last 4 years at least one
staff person has been awake, 'round the clock, 365 days a year. Some
of us to go 7PM meetings at the end of our days, and some come by at
the beginning. ;-)
I too wish that we could get a better meeting date. I had things
get in the way once again, trying to schedule for this meeting. Oh
well.

Is that a continuation of the Friday meeting?
I didn't stay more than 1/2 hour, as expected.

There is going to be an interesting presentation on Thursday 3/9 at
1:30 PM at SILS (which is U of M Library Science) at 304 West Engineering
on the U of M main campus. Joan Durrance, of SILS and HVCN, has arranged
this. Here is some of what Arnold Barr, the HVCN chair, wrote me
regarding this:
> We have, thanks to Joan Durrance, an opportunity to hear, meet, and
> engage one of the major intellects in the field of community networking.
> Mr. Cisler will be in Ann Arbor at SILS on March 9, 1995 and will be

Arnold was writing to the HVCN community, but I know he wants anyone who might
be interested in community network activities to come to this if they are able.

I will be attending this meeting, and I have written email to Joan, confirming
my intentions. I wanted to encourage others who were interested to do the
same, and that is the main reason I posted this.

There is an interesting piece regarding the future of funding for
networks like HVCN. This was taken from the comunet listserv, where
it had been posted by someone from the capital freenet in Ottawa.
It's very interesting (and discouraging). !menumore /u/srw/comunet
Arnold believes that Steve Cisler will be discussing the issues raised
in that piece.

Here's a meeting summary from yesterday's TIIAP grant application meeting.
We went around the room and introduced ourselves. Arnold Barr passed
out a lot of reading material. There were about 12 participants at
the meeting, including 3 people from M-Net, two from the Learning
Coalition, 3 from Grex, and 3 or 4 from the HVCN. We discussed what
the focus of the grant application should be. Everybody is going to
read the reading material from Arnold. John Perry is going to set up
an e-mail mailing list for the TIIAP grant application people.
(Send mail to tiiap@arbornet.org to reach this list, or send mail to
jep@arbornet.org to get on or off the list). The next meeting will
be Thursday March 9 at 6pm at the NEW center.
