Re 48: Nope, no password.
Re 49: Probably just "telnet cyberspace.org", if the account is on
a unix machine.

Valerie is right. Each college has different ways of the
actual access method, such as at a Campus Computing Site, there
is a menu system on DOS machines which includes 'telnet' as an
option. But once they figure out how to telnet, the rest is
easy. Do you want some of the little Grex brochures, Pattie?

No, I was asked to put detailed instructions in The Citadel, and saying
find telnet and type it, isn't going to work. Isn't there a standard
prompt that is common for all of U-M systems?

OK, let's make it simplier...how about detailed directions for the Michnet
Which Host prompt?

Which Host? telnet cyberspace.org

However, you must have a MichNet account that permits you to connect
outside MichNet hosts. There is no standard prompt for all U-M systems. I
would estimate, there are about 1,356 different prompts (keeps you on your
toes ;->). There are round-about ways still to get to grex that have been
described numerous times here, such as entering Which Host?msu-gopher and
then following the gopher menus to the list of FreeNets, and then Grex.
The msu-gopher menu choices are 13, 5, 7, 8 (I just did it, to check).

Most U of M students will have uniqnames. they can use their
uniqname@umich.edu for Merit authorization.

That is, from the "Which Host?" prompt, they type "telnet cyberspace.org".
Michnet then says something like "You need to enter authorization to do
this. What is your authorization?" The student types their uniqname as
uniqname@umich.edu. Then Grex says "Grex is the breakfast food of
champions. login:"

strange. for Merit authorization (in those rare cases), I've been
typing umich/<uniqname> followed by the password.

Cool--then they modified the mode to accept uniqnames, which is good.

either umich.edu/uniqname or uniqname@umich.edu works. I've just managed
to get in the habit of doing sgib@umich.edu for some reason.
